Well here is a new one... my client has a mutual (OICH) plan F. She calls into to Mutual of Omaha service a few days ago, thinking she has a plan G, and asks to change to the Plan F. They look her record up, and proceed to sell her a Plan F, to take effect 12/01/24.

I get the notification yesterday, call her, I assure her she already has a Plan F. She confidently tells me no, she has a plan G. She is wrong.

Anyhow, I call Mutual to see what's up, and confirm I am the AOR. They tell me this is considered an internal conversion, even thought there is no affiliate change. It's OICH to OICH. Literally the same plan, but with a new policy number.

Im transferred to mutual commissions, and they just say oh, well this new policy is direct to consumer, so there is no agent of record. They say I am not the agent of record on the new policy, because it's direct to consumer, even though it is an internal conversion. He wants to transfer me to another area.... this is AEP... who has time for the hot potato game with service?

Has Mutual found a way to cut field agents out of the AOR ?

End of rant for now. Ill deal with this another time

Possibly . . . Is that a problem????

Your sarcasm is almost as undetectable as mine! Ha...

I will resolve this issue. I rarely sell mutual medsupp anyway... we all know they will roll out a new book anyway now, their rates are hardly competitive anymore.

Just frustrating to see this play out this way.

I thought the sarcasm was obvious. If not, I need to start using air quotes and emoji's when I post.

Companies and large agencies have become less and less agent friendly for the better part of the last 25 years or so.

P&C carriers have been ruthless from what I have seen. I won't name names but I believe at least one carrier yanked contracts several years ago in favor of becoming a direct writer.

That didn't work out so well for the carrier or agents/agencies.

Also, the carriers writing U65 major med mostly bailed between 2010 & 2014. The few that stayed around did everything they could to turn an agent business model into a hobby.

Prior to 2014 we had 25+ carriers offering major med. By 2017 I think there were only 4 left in the state.

In the late 80's I made a good living selling individual and small group medical insurance. Some brokers had a comparative rater where I could enter the census info and get a quote with 20 companies. Today those companies are gone.

The good old days.

As I've spent more and more time in the business I used to be a big proponent of MOO. Not so much anymore.

But good lord their agent service pisses me off. Takes several menus and several minutes to talk to someone and then they want to transfer you most of the time.
