My personal experience with Aflac

Re: New York Life or AFLAC ?

This statement concerns me a bit. Dignity and professionalism should dictate that you sell quality products that will be there to support your clients needs. Products that stand the test of time. The three companies I mentioned in my previous post have all been around since the civil war.

Basically, NYL will get you appointments with the CEO. AFLAC will get you appointments with the janitorial staff. Which would you rather work with?

Got to NYL, do your training and immediately team up with a veteran agent there and take that agent on all of your appointments and split the commission.

You can probably (possibly) make a living with a company like AFLAC (depending on market saturation in your area). Trust me, I speak from experience 3 years NML...nothing makes your weekend better than walking out of a business with three applications for life insurance in hand and an annual premium of $150,000 to fund a corporate insurance plan on the three officers. With NYL (or Mass or NML) you can do that kind of sale, with AFLAC, no way in hell you're going to be able to get in the door and write any kind of premium like that.

I will accepted the position with NYL. I will always think of the client first, and what their needs are for them and thier families. Don't be concerned as I am a Honest, hard working ,family man. I hope that wont work against me. I would not sell something if it were not benificial. Thanks for the input.

Re: Working for Aflac?

Lot of bad things being said about AFLAC here. Some real facts about AFLAC: # 164 on the fortune 500 list. Over $60 billion in assets. AA and A++ rated. #30 on the fortune 100 best companies to work for. AFLAC clients keep their polices for an average of 13 years. An endless supply of FREE sales tools.

As for me I have been working with AFLAC for 5 yeas, I make over well 100K a year. Are there people that this is not the best place to work? sure you bet, but please do not put down a company just do to the fact you did not make a good living working for them.

When you work a 100 % commission job (no base pay) you must put in more time and effort than a job that pays you a wage. As the saying goes you get out of it what you put in.

The way AFLC brings new people on is how they filter out the people that just can not take on the responsiblity to own and operate there own business.

Re: New York Life or AFLAC ?

I don't think you're dishonest. Just wanted to point out that IMO it's a combination of what you sell and who you sell for. With a company like NYL, it's really the best of both worlds. Plus, if you really want to you can sell CI supplements on the side through someone like Colonial.

As posted above, the management in your office will have a degree of impact on your future with NYL. I hope that you have a good and supportive team.

I can't stress enough how important I feel it is (from experience with NML) to ally with a good veteran agent and learn how to work on cases in the big leagues.

The opportunities with companies like NYL, NML, Pru, Mass are enormous, you can get into doors most other agents can't. The reps of these companies carry a lot of weight.

Good luck and congrats on your decision.

Re: New York Life or AFLAC ?

DAVE020 you are so off base with your BS about AFLAC. Aflac is the nations largest provider of sec. 125 programs in the country.
Next Aflac dose make appointments for you, so if you are going to see janitors the is your fault. Plus you need to see the CEO (owner HR person) first before you can see there employees.
Maybe you have heard of a company called WallMart, they are a AFLAC client. No New York Life there sorry.
AFLAC must be doing something right as the are ranked #30 best companies to work for by fortune magazine. Did not see New York Life on that list of 100 companies.

AFLAC also has a children's cancer hospital, last fall (2007) they cured a little girl who had sicacell!!the first in the WORLD!!! Again no New York Life here sorry.
So keep the AFLAC bashing going, and we at AFLAC will keep making BIG$$$$$ and helping cure CANCER with money donated right from our pay checks!! Can you say the same??

AFLAC is the bottom rung of the business. AFLAC might be rated as a good company to work for but as independent agent you dont work for them and that survey is based on their employees in Georgia, etc.
