My personal experience with Aflac

Re: New York Life or AFLAC ?

DAVE020 you are so off base with your BS about AFLAC. Aflac is the nations largest provider of sec. 125 programs in the country.

125 is not an insurance product...and can you back that up with any real data or did you just make that up?...next.

Next Aflac dose make appointments for you, so if you are going to see janitors the is your fault. Plus you need to see the CEO (owner HR person) first before you can see there employees.

You don't see and sell the CEO of any corporation, you at best get to see an HR person (not a director, either)...next.

Maybe you have heard of a company called WallMart, they are a AFLAC client. No New York Life there sorry.

I bet that at least one of the following insurance companies provides deferred comp/buy-sell/SERP or other to Walmart (one "L" by the way)

Northwestern Mutual Life*
MassMutual
Prudential
New York Life*

Sorry, but the two with asterisks both provide corporate funded life insurance to Walmart executives. The premiums are disclosed in the annual statement....next.

AFLAC must be doing something right as the are ranked #30 best companies to work for by fortune magazine. Did not see New York Life on that list of 100 companies.

Survey is based on payrolled employees of companies, not independent contractors. Anyone selling AFLAC plans did not participate in this survey...next.

AFLAC also has a children's cancer hospital, last fall (2007) they cured a little girl who had sicacell!!the first in the WORLD!!! Again no New York Life here sorry.

Why would a life insurance company treat cancer? And I don't think AFLAC cured the little girl, I am sure some doctors that are not employees of AFLAC did that...next.

So keep the AFLAC bashing going, and we at AFLAC will keep making BIG$$$$$ and helping cure CANCER with money donated right from our pay checks!! Can you say the same??

If AFLAC is curing cancer, why do they sell cancer policies to pay people who get cancer? Wouldn't curing it eliminate the need for a cancer policy to cover it?

I trust that the AFLAC rah-rah poster's post gave you a clear indication of the type of company (and illiterate agents) you chose not to go with. Can you now see why the concensus of the experience agents was NYL?

Re: seeking advice on starting with AFLAC

Many former agents have claimed the areas they marketed in were flooded but that would obviously depend on the area. Claims have been made that when cold-calling business you're the 3rd, 5th, 8th agent who's solicited them.

Also complaints on heavy charge-backs since they're signing up hourly workers for benefits.....then the workers see the effect on their check and cancel, also you have people quitting/fired/laid off all of which results in a chargeback.

Not to say you can't make money, just be aware.

The 3rd, 4th, 5th....blah blah blah..that just means that those agents did not have what it takes to get the in the door and write the business.

As for charge backs, ALL insurance companies have charge backs, they way to not have this happen is to get paid "as earned".

Now for the effect on there pay check: AFLAC we set up our accounts on a sec. 125, now if the weekly premium is $7.00 a week this is taken out of there pay check before taxes, now that $7.00 feels more like $2.00. Also these plans are PORTABLE so if a person is laid off, fired or just leaves, they have the option to make the premium at the same rate.

AFLAC dose not cost the business owner any money, the employees pay 100 % of the premium. Now with the sec 125 it saves the business owner FICA dollars.

Re: Working for Aflac?

Lot of bad things being said about AFLAC here. Some real facts about AFLAC: # 164 on the fortune 500 list. Over $60 billion in assets. AA and A++ rated. #30 on the fortune 100 best companies to work for. AFLAC clients keep their polices for an average of 13 years. An endless supply of FREE sales tools.

As for me I have been working with AFLAC for 5 yeas, I make over well 100K a year. Are there people that this is not the best place to work? sure you bet, but please do not put down a company just do to the fact you did not make a good living working for them.

When you work a 100 % commission job (no base pay) you must put in more time and effort than a job that pays you a wage. As the saying goes you get out of it what you put in.

The way AFLC brings new people on is how they filter out the people that just can not take on the responsiblity to own and operate there own business.

I couldn't have put it better myself.....:noteworthy:

...people on is how they filter out the people that just can not take on the responsiblity to own and operate there own business.

Funny, that is exactly what all of the Amway people say, almost word for word. Do you do Amway as well?

Re: Working for Aflac?

I find it very misleading that Aflac uses the #30 on the Fortune 100 best companies to work for to recruit agents. As an Aflac agent, you don't work for Aflac. The Fortune ranking refers to corporate employees, not agents. As for the way that Aflac brings in new people, they hire anyone, even those who are grammatically challenged as is illustrated by the above posts. Success at Aflac is not about having the responsibility to own and operate one's own business, it is about being able to overcome an overly saturated market, which is like rolling a snowball uphill in the summer in Texas; you'll end up with nothing for your effort.

Quack, quack, quack. "The agents did not have what it takes." There is some truth to that because the ones who do have skills move on very quickly.

Gee hodaka1974

For a minute I thought you were with Primerica. Been a long time since I've heard someone defend an insurance company like that. Reminds me of the not so good ol' days:D

Re: seeking advice on starting with AFLAC

All I can say from my 20 years is this.. I have never seen the same Aflac agent twice...

And from the one poster... it looks like Aflac doesn't care all that much about your math or english skills...;)
