new agent, which way to go?

Thats my goal is to learn the business and then decide if I want to go independent. What is your thoughts on Met Life and AIG? I have interviews with both companies. AIG on Fri. and Met Life next Tues.

In the right agency Metlife could be a really good place to be. They pay a salary at the start. See if you can find a mentor there. That would be most important. As far as AIG is concerned I do not know anything about them.

Got recruited twice by Met Life. took their tests and passed. Met with some regional bigwig also. They kept talking about money and income. I asked if I could continue to sell individual health. Their big push is in the annuities and investment life policies. They said I could still sell health "If I wanted to". but I would get re-contracted with the health companies through their health insurance dept. In other words, if I left, none of that business would be mine. I didn't even get to the non-compete clauses. I said that before I would consider working for them, I wanted to talk to an agent with 6 months experience at the company and an agent with 2 years at the company. Never heard from them again. I now can sell Met Life products (life & ltc) through the life brokerage I'm contracted with. Good products, but I got the feeling that if your production isn't what they think it should be, they will hound you. Agents under pressure to sell tend to do unethical things and I didn't want to put myself in a position where I compromised my ethics to meet my bosses requirements. I also don't like having bosses so I guess we weren't a good fit.

Things probably vary from office to office so it might be worthwhile looking into. Just make sure you understand their contract and the ramifications if you decide to leave that office.
