I see it as a problem if in his training/website he doesnt disclose he WASNT successful doing the very thing hes teaching! The debate over rather he stole it or not, is debatable I guess....but I would feel duped if I paid for training from a guy who never was successful at what hes teaching!
TD.. Most people that teach have never been successful doing what they teach..
A lot of people take the old axiom, "those that can do, those that can't teach" as an insult but in most cases it is true and there is nothing insulting about it. It is a recognition of the fact that not everyone has the same talents. Some of the best sales people I have known could not teach under any circumstances and some of the best teachers I have known could not sell.
And it doesn't just apply to selling. As a general rule the best college business professors could not start up and build a successful business. And,without a doubt, there are successful business owners that would fail in the classroom.
As far as using someone else's ideas, the rule is if you can find the information in two or more independent sources then it is public information and you do not have to make an attribution. However, I would rather make a statement somewhere in my writing, "many of the ideas presented here are things I learned while working with Scott Burke, Shannon Davies, etc."
Or even the simple statement an old preacher used to make, "I milk a lot of cows but I churn my own butter".
