New with Questions

I am a 20 yr commissioned sales rep, mostly in office equipment, mailing/shipping and print systems. Due to the depleting mail, my company has downsized and I am out of work. I have considered may options but keep coming back to Final Expense insurance. I am committed to getting licensed and am in that process but have a question about who to go to work for/with.

I have several offers and have narrowed it to two different companies.
Company 1 offers a tried and true (their words) system of training and support structure and they provide agents a "lead pack" containing anywhere from 30-50 leads. Some new generated from mailers, but they are of varying age. For this, they only offer a 50% commission to begin. The percentage will increase as I master my trade and sell more.

Company 2 offers very little support and assistance and leads are bought at $15 for new leads generated from direct mail. They have committed to provide leads at no cost if I produce. Their commission rate is 85-100%...a sizeable difference

While I am new to insurance, I am not new to sales. I understand the benefit to the support and who wouldnt want free leads but I am unsure as to what to do. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Just a suggestion, it might be helpful if you identify the two companies you are looking at. I am guessing the first company is providing the "lead pack" for free? Well, not really free based on the low commission.

You do not say what part of Tennessee you are located in. There are several people on this forum from TN in that market. Some of them would be good to guide or train you. My recommendation is start in a captive type situation and get your feet wet. Having never sold insurance and starting green your chances of success are not high no matter what you have sold. There is just too much to learn. Although it is not FE both AGLA and American Income are places your could probably get started.

You will most likely need massive amounts of support when you start so that is a must. But loosing 50% commissions for that support is huge. It will make a big different in the amount of money you make when you first start.

And your first few months in this biz is critical!!!!

The 50% sound like Parker and Asses under whatever name they might be using now. If the headquaters are Meridian, Ms., run!

You are going to need much support. This is not anything like selling a tangible product and if you think it is, get into another line of work.

Support and taining is not free and never has been. 65 to 70% of your income is too mcu to pay for that training and support but the number is in there somewhere.

Personally I think you might not need as much trainning as some people suggest. if you have been in sales for over 20 years you should catch on quicker than you might think. We are not dealing with rocket scientists here. FE is mostly to under educated, lower income people that are just looking for some insurance and if you can show them they need your help you are half way home.

I work under PHR and they do have some very helpful trainning videos that are great even for agents with little experience selling insurance.

You might look up PHR and speak with John. He might be willing to give you a fair contract to begin with and be willing to move you up as you improve your production. Their videos walk you through the entire process from working the leads to scheduling the appointments and how to work them when you get in the home. That might be all you need.

No matter who you go with make sure they are willing to up your percentage as you begin to produce more.
