Newbie Needs Advice on Selling Forethought FE

I am super new at Insurance sales. I appreciate any advice from those experienced in cold calling Final Expense Pre Need Leads. I come from working as a consumer advocate for a senior services agency.

The agency that hired me trained me to pass the insurance test. Which I did. I got my license two weeks ago in California. They are only focusing on Forethought for me right now.The leads they gave me don't remember requesting the info when I call them.I seem to do better door knocking I got three policies done by door knocking in one day off the list, but none from the leads on the phone. One guy said I reminded him of his daughter and that's why he bought.I follow the script but it doesn't seem to work for me. I am also wondering if I should get licensed in other areas to improve my chances. I appreciate any advice that you can offer.:err:

Nice job on closing those deals.

Many top gun FE producers doorknock daily their leads.

My take is focus on what works best for you and leverage it as much to your advantage.

I also recommend focusing exclusively on FE for at least 6 months, and make sure you pick up additional carriers as well. Foresters and Monumental are 2 definite carriers you need.

Do what works for you... Nothing about this business is one size fits all. Some agents call their leads to set appointments.. others prefer to "just show up" at the door. There are very successful agents in both groups. Sounds like the latter is best for you.

As far as not remembering sending the lead in, don't let that throw you. I have had people look at the lead and say, "Yelp, that's my handwriting and my signature but I didn't send it in."

I agree with Reardon (and he is a great producer). Until you get some experience , concentrate on one product, learn everything about it and how to motivate people to buy it. Good luck.

Welcome...That you wrote three deals working doors tells me that you have the secret ingredient and that you're a natural. You may find that FE is a good place to be. As we say in the funeral home, "We put the fun back into funerals." Are you in NorCal or SoCal?

Thanks for the advice Reardon.

I had to make those three sales that day because I needed to pay my mortgage. I was really motivated.

Since the agency that trained me is only doing Forethought.(So they say). When I looked up my boss's license he was doing United Heritage too.
I wonder if they would mind if I am interested in adding Foresters and Monumental. I could probably just do those independently down the line right?

Thank You .That's a good idea to focus on FE for six months.

Thanks Funeral Director. Yes the script doesn't fit my personality.
The trainer is really helpful and always available but the phone script just isn't me.
When I was myself at the door people were way more interested.
I am in Northern California in Silicon Valley.

Hi Rousemark,

your experience with these leads makes me feel better about the crazy responses on the phone. They acted totally clueless. It really surprised me. So I guess I will stick with door knocking.
Thanks!

Dont worry, you will be crazy and clueless when your over 65 too...

Good job on 3 closes, just repeat what you did, and dont worry if you make some mistakes, it always a learning process..

Getting into the insurance business was a last-ditch effort for me. My other business was tanking and no one would hire me.

Sometimes it's the fear of going hungry or poverty that drives one the most to succeed.

Also, when I door knock, I just show up at the door, show them the card they sent in, and tell them why most people sent it in.

I don't lie, I'm not intentionally vague. I just tell them the truth. And I ask them politely if I can show them what its all about Who da' thunk it works...?

Are you doing final expense AND Preneed? ForeThought has both but most agents do one or the other.

I can't imagine someone brand new having both.

Im doing just preneed for forethought.. I also have a similar question about getting contracted with other compaines. I sold WL and Term with another captive company for almost 3 years and am new to independent side. should i contract with others and which ones? Should i stick to just preneed or do both preneed and FE? Any advice would help as well, thanks for posting this Angie!

Glad you like this thread and that it is helpful. I am in no way experienced enough to answer your question. I have only been doing this about a month. The others on here are so informative and experienced. My guess is as the gurus in here advised me, is stick to pre-need learn that backwards and forwards then add other things to your basket. You don't want to be a Jack or Jill of all trades and master at none. Good luck to you.
