Newsletter to Clients?

Is anybody using a newsletter to clients? If so, how has it worked for you in terms of new lead generation and retention of current clients?

Thanks,

Beach

I send out a monthly e-newsletter. Usually good for 1 - 2 sales a month.

Sent one in August about life insurance. Made 3 sales, $4,000 commission.

Would be nice if I could do that every month.

My newsletter goes to existing clients & prospects. I mail about 400 per month and it (almost) never fails to result in at least one sale.

The $4k comp was definitely a windfall. Most result in health sales. Average comp there is $60 or so per month per new client.

I call all of my clients every year, 2 weeks after their birthdays, and ask them did they got my birthday card that I sent to them, and check to see if they need to update their polices. Like have they bought a new home, got married, had another kid or know of anyone that I can help with some insurance.

I also mail then things all the time. I don't want them to forget about me. I think it is very important to at least talk to them once a year. The birthday cards and phone call system really works well.

I just sent out issue 72. I send out a monthly newsletter to clients, potential clients I have been in contact with, and I add a group of names off of a targeted mail list I buy. I sent out 2000 this week by mail and I have an email list of over 300.

It is how I stay in touch. I also do annual reviews for all of my existing clients. The newsletter always generates calls and business. Annuity, medicare, etc...

It takes a few hours to construct the newsletter in MS Publisher. I bulk mail using a service that prints, stuffs and stamps them.

Newletters are a great way to upsell your existing client list and plus it helps your current clients remember who you are when they need you. It also helps with referrals.

Thanks for the replies and discussion.

Anybody heard of a direct response newsletter to clients and prospects?

With a direct response newsletter you're goal is to have as many people as possible acknowledge that you sent it to them, by either calling your office or emailing you.

So you put in a few different mechanisms to generate the response. I've used trivia questions, and the first to answer correctly gets free movie tickets. Or it talks about the client of the month, and what they get because they were client of the month, then prods the reader to inquire about how to become client of the month. That sort of thing.

I've also used non-insurance related stories to captivate the reader and keep them interested, hopefully giving it a little more shelf life, for when friends, family, neighbors or co-workers come over. My goal is to get it passed around a little bit.

This is a great idea that is sort of obvious once you think about it: making newsletters interactive and at the same time less boring! Terrific. I am going to stop the presses right now on my December newsletter to see if I can implement some interaction ideas.
