Agents wanting to enroll the uninsured in Obamacare plans should consider volunteering with Enroll America

(Tammy) Spencer, a volunteer with the nonprofit Enroll America, was spending a hot and humid Saturday morning knocking on doors in Boca Raton, a mostly posh South Florida city, looking for people without health coverage. She wanted to let them know about new online insurance marketplaces that open for enrollment Oct. 1.

After two hours of canvassing, she found one uninsured woman and got contacts for three others. "It was worth it," said the 51-year-old insurance agent. "But next time, we need to go to a poorer area, or set up a table in the mall."

How could any agent that has been around for even a year not know better than to knock doors in high demographic areas?

Either that or the reporter is too dumb not to understand that navigators are not agents.

They're not selling, they're finding out who they can sell to.

Am I the only one thinking "why don't you cross reference SSN's from all carriers with all SSN's tied to living people and contact everyone not in both lists?"

This seems like the equivalent of knocking on doors and getting phone numbers while ignoring the local phone book.

There are a couple things wrong with this article:

1. What the heck is she doing in Boca, knocking on homes with boat docks? Too scared to go deep in the lower income neighborhoods?

2. The guy from publix, who says it's too expensive to get on group plan through work, won't get help from the exchange.

"It was worth it."

At $20/hour (minimum) to walk around, you bet it was worth it - for you.
