Its ironic to see republicans talk on TV about the cost of the stimulus while we spend 10 billion dollars a month in Iraq.
Doesnt spending money in Iraq stimulate the economy?

Only if you count the jobs 'saved'. You should only count the jobs created, since it's the only measurable thing.
I figure that is one out of 10, putting it back at 2.6M per job
Dan
P.S. This post is just a smokescreen to cover my bad math. I have no idea how many jobs this bill actually creates vs how many it saves, much less how you would ever measure this.

It sure helps Haliburton & Blackwater. Its sad that U.S. taxpayers foot the bill for the "no bid contracts" Haliburton gets.
Why pay millions to Blackwater, when our own soldiers could provide security to diplomats? Because republicans want to privatise everything. Blackwater employees made $100,000 a year in Iraq. Unreal.
If we could just have had a sky-diving cow land on Pelosi about the 50th time she jumped up during the speech, I would be a happy camper.
Winter, You are right about WW2, don't forget we still have Afghanastan. How many billions will we have to spend there? The U.S. will be there for awhile.I don't disagree. I was just trying on the jaundiced economic theories that are at play now. It is almost impossible to identify any expenditure of any kind now that is not considered to be a stimulus. If so, why isnt the military expenditure in Iraq considered to be helpful to the economy especially since it is largely agreed by economists that it was military expenditures/WWII that ended the Great Depression?
It's nuts. I know. Was just taking a few sips of the kool aid and trying to see the world from the new voo doo economics. I wonder what the answer would be though?
We're not getting out of Iraq. Too much oil. Too many arms and war machines to sell to the Iraqis. So you tell us why we are still in Iraq. The Dem's took over congress two years ago on a get out of there now campaign and Obama has been President for over a month what are they waiting for?

Like I said we aren't leaving.Obama says we will be out in 16 months except for the 50,000 troops left to help out, which is about a third of the existing level. Gates confirms that he hopes they wont be needed for combat because the Iraqis will be taking care of business but says they can engage in combat if needed.
Gives a whole new meaning to the term "ending the war."
