One-Fifth of New Enrollees Under Health Care Law Fail to Pay First Premium

Our Government - Arrogant, Untrusting, Incompetent. They don't trust the numbers being put out by Health Insurers, regarding the number of people who have paid for their plans.

"The federal government may not completely finish the automated payment system for Obamacare for "several months," White House spokesman Jay Carney said Friday, February 14th. Until that system is fully running, the administration won't be able to verify how many of the consumers who signed up for Obamacare insurance are, in fact, paying their premiums and are hence truly enrolled."

Story: Obamacare payment system will take months to complete, White House says - CBS News

Why does the government need a system in place for the newly insured to pay their premiums? Perhaps they're getting ready for 100% Government-owned and operated health insurance coverage.

Carney says that carriers have been paid aptc , but not one carrier I talk too has received a dime, and neither have we on the aptc portion

Yagents,

He didn't say they were paid, he said "the payments are happening on-time". That means according to their schedule, not a reasonable time or when we expect it.

From what I remember, the CMS guidance on carriers requesting APTC's with that Excel spreadsheet stated the subsidy would be dispatched no earlier than 2/21.

So, yes, totally on time.

Politicians choose their words carefully...

I never did........................ probably why I always wound up on the front page with wild quotes like "mow 'em down" when we were hearing a case about a BMX park. sierra club protesting the removal of a small sections of trees that I felt were in the way of progress... my quote, "mow 'em down"... next day boom, front page. "Commissioner calls for removal of Trees with cry of Mow 'Em Down... or something like that..

Now see if you had me as your advisor I would've suggested "re-purposing" the trees for "habitat for humanity beautification" mulch for the flower beds.:D

I would have been going up one side and down the other of that paper....Totally taking your comment out of context I am sure you meant to now down the sierra club protesters.

So, is it 1/5 of the total enrollees? Or 1/5 of the people who actually had to pay for the plan?

To make these numbers 'less bad', I'm guessing the half of people who where referred to Medicaid are counted. If they weren't counted, it would be 2/5ths or so.

DJS,

Specifically, it's a 70-95% range reported by 6 specific insurers in various states, please see my post #4 in this thread for the breakdown.

Some carriers (wellpoint) specifically state "individual coverage through the exchange", others (BCBS CA) state "80% of those who signed up", implying off-exchange business is included.

At the end of the day, it's not a valid number. It's a random figure near the middle of a range obtained from a non-statistically relevant sample.

It's the equivalent of asking 5 people in your office "how much cash is in your pocket?", taking a figure somewhere in the middle, and reporting "Americans carry $23 of cash on them".

""The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, which represents the nation's Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans, says "80-85″ percent of newly enrolled individuals buying plans under the Affordable Care Act are paying their premiums.""

Note: The 80-85% probably includes both ON and OFF Exchange plan purchases.
