Paying Telemarketers

Let's say I wanted to hire a 1099 Telemarketer. Can someone with experience tell me how yours worked? Did you pay them an hourly fee or per set appointment? I'd prefer to pay them per set appointment because I'd like to ensure they work.

Anyone with any advice/experience? Where did you find your Telemarketer?

This would be for setting p&c appts, both home and commercial.

Thanks in advance.

Honestly you can pay them any way you want it's all about how you phrase it in their contract.

As a 1099 "employee" they are a contractor. So they are paid for performance. But you can dictate this as hourly pay provided they hit certain minimums each week.

It requires someone with a job mentality and willing to work all day long for little compensation. They aren't hard to find as long as you can offer a decent pay rate. They'll do whatever is necessary to keep their job.

I've hired/fired/managed many a telemarketer, a little ad on craigslist or in the local paper and you're set.

Thanks for the info Liquidglass. That's kind of what I was thinking, but wasn't sure. I'm thinking on just hiring someone more on an evening part-time basis for now, just to kind of see how it goes.

Yeah that is the best way to go, part time to start. Even to see if you want to work with them in the long Run.

My last Telemarketer was a liar..he only made calls when I was in the office...once I left he would go outside and make personal calls and go to the bathroom for a long time..

He was a property inspector for ins companies on the side...he would get calls on my time and pretend its a lead for me.:goofy:

That's a great reason to have them on a dialer that logs everything. I've hired many many telemarketers and whether they're in my office or on the other side of the planet, by using a dialer I've always been able to know exactly what they're doing.

I've always had better results paying them a straight hourly with a semi-arbitrary bonus.

So the dialers log everything? Hmm, that sounds like a good deal. It would definitely suck to have someone conducting other business on your time.

Not all will, but the reason why I've used the platform I have for so long and bought the hardware to be able to resell it is that it does an excellent job of not only helping them make more calls more efficiently, but also logs what happens down to the second. They can take all the breaks they want, I just only pay them based on their time spent working. Works out well for both sides.

This may sound like a stupid question, but I have no experience with dialers. Is it something that is actually hooked up to a telephone, or something kind of like VOIP that works with software?

Great questions.

Most of the dialer solutions that make the most sense are cloud based, so you usually access them via a softphone (free) and a web browser. All that's generally needed is a stable internet connection and a headset.
