Any system that doesn't charge monthly or yearly fees cannot afford updates and will not be around for very long. Look for a system that is big enough and has enough market share to remain in business but remain affordable. Applied and AMS scoop up the weaker companies. I looked at QQ and Hawksoft and ended up going with QQ... it was just as good IMO and the cost was significantly less.

The idea that any software that doesn't charge fees wont be around flies in the face of thousands of pieces of open source software out there, such as linux, which powers 90% of the servers used on the internet.

Unless you think the internet won't be around because the software isn't paid for.

vTiger and SugarCRM have free and paid versions, plus you pay for support. There is money to be made, but its not in selling the software, its in doing work.

That may be true in general but it has not been my experience in dealing with P&C agency management systems over the past 15 years. The smaller players die off or are purchased and then unsupported until obsolete and you are upsold into the next version from AMS or Applied.

Thanks for all the input. I have done demos with AMS360, Hawfksoft, Agency Advantage, and Hawksoft. I was very impressed with the 360 demo, and its looking like the cream of the crop. Priced a bit too steep for us though...I did see an advertisement in the newest issue of IA magazine for Agency Matrix. Looks like it's entirely web-based, with a start-up cost around $200. Does anyone have any input on this one? The start-up costs of $800-$2000+ for an agency management system are pretty scary, if you ask me. Agency Matrix looks like it might be a very inexpensive way to get things organized around here. I can't find much in the way of reviews however. But $89/mo for unlimited users is definitely the lowest rate I've found.

maybe check out AgencyIntel? $0 setup fees and reasonable monthlies. they worked with us to create a somewhat custom solution...good luck in the search!

I have been running around doing the same dance with trying to find an agency management system for a small agency. I ended up settling on quomations power manage, it looks pretty sleek, support people are nice, and price is definitely right, although buying software is always painful..... Its like 300-500 startup and 90 a month or something. Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best, because I am getting buried in sticky notes ha ha

QQ is great! Thats what we use. There support and training are impressive as well.

I use Agency Matrix. It is very affordable for a new agency. What i like about them is all web-based and they take into account changes you want to see and do it for you! Yes, they have some downloadable forms (we dont use them since we only do commercial auto) they also just partnered with splash cube for social media, and they are working on a 24/7 cert program for your insureds. They are definately user friendly and open to talking to you about updates, changes, etc.
