Just heard a comment that leaves me more discouraged and heart sick for our country. Quote "The state of the Union address was just delivered by a man recently judged to be mentally incompetent to stand trial for a felony and we, the people, are to be reassured that all is well". End quote. Not only that but his political party urges us to vote to reelect him in the upcoming election. This is reminiscent of an old Twilight Zone episode.

Nothing new about that. I was on a legal forum decades ago where we were discussing the Clarence Thomas - Anita Hill business. The name Thomas came out asterisked.
Research yielded a consensus among wordsmiths that the reason for censoring Thomas could be traced back to the D. H. Lawrence novel Lady Chatterley's Lover, published in 1928. It was a very erotic novel, banned in many places, and the subject of an obscenity trial. Ironically the book is tame compared to what you see in today's streaming video.
Anyway, the male character refers to his penis as John Thomas and his lover's vagina as Lady Jane. The censor on that legal forum was rather anal about leaving it censored.
The book is in the public domain as of 1/1/24 and can be downloaded free from several sources.
