POS Issues With Clients

I have had a couple of clients that had light strokes past the 5 year look back that appear to be healthy and answer no to all the health questions with the help of the wife,daughter...etc.
The only medications currently prescribed are for high blood pressure, migraines, nothing that would cause a graded or declined case.
When it's time for a POS,that's when things get slippery. Neither time did I get an answer, had to go to underwriting for further review.
When follow up calls were made from the carrier to the insured, they were offered a graded policy only.
In the areas I'm working, there are lots of folks who can't read and write. Some may have never made it past fifth grade.
What impact does slurred speech, inability to fully understand the health questions, timelines, have on completing the POS to the underwriters satisfaction ?

Just curious what state you're in that people can't read or write and only go to school till the 5th grade age 50-75? I can understand people born in the 1930's but not born from 1950 on?Maybe a few but not many as you said.

I had a tough time with Oxford on this before. the client had a hard time understanding the interviewer and the daughter would assist. I got two warnings from the interviewer that no one can provide answers except the applicant. I decided to end the call.
apparently they have reason to believe the applicant is impaired enough to not understand the health questions to accurately complete the application.

Then why does your flag say Florida? All this time I was thinking you also worked my area. :skeptical:

Nevertheless, if you're having a problem with POS then use a company that doesn't have one, like Monumental, SNL, or 5Star (optional). If they're that uneducated then they won't know their premium is a tad higher than others anyway.

Who doesn't understand the health questions? The client or is the interviewer not understanding the client over the phone? If the client doesn't understand them when you ask them then they're not eligible to enter into a binding contract. "Competent parties" is a requirement to enter into any contract.

I would guess that you are writing Settlers? First thing to do would be to use another company.

I'm working up here for the summer, too hot at home right now. Lol .

Settlers is really well known here,a household name,I'm using them quite a bit, there app is only 4 pages.

Monumental's app is 11 pages. Next case that's similar I'm going to them. Errrrr.

A little bit of both, more the interviewer.

Yep,you got it. I'm having decent luck with them,as mentioned before,I would say at least 50% if not more prospects I talk to have old Huff Cook policies or an active Settlers policy.

When they ask who you write and you tell them Settlers, that name is familiar to them and often they tell you "mama has a policy with yal'll and I was gonna get the number from her and call ya'll.

Once I started writing bronze,in order to keep the count down I needed to submit gold and silver so I'm just kind of going along with them. Plus Im writing a good number of under 40 clients. I'm just taking what I can get and they happen to be the right fit around here.

If you don't wnat to change companies then you will just have to deal with the flakiness of Settlers and their POS.
