Post-Corona, Preparing for Normalcy

This was a disappointing discovery for me this morning.

I found this website where you can choose country data and chart the data re: Covid-19. I wanted to see how things were looking for Sweden, which is the one country that has rejected economic shut down, quarantine. social distancing. Then I though that the Swede data along told me nothing really, so I was able to add Denmark, Finland, and Norway - the three countries closest to Sweden.

It does appear as though there is a much higher risk of death if quarantine, social distancing, and economic shut down is not practiced.

Here is the website and you can do this for yourselves. This is not news. It simply plotting data on a graph like you would have done in middle school math class.

We really do have to be careful with how quickly and in what manner we open the economy up.

That's very different from the Israeli team's findings that I posted yesterday. I wonder which is accurate (if either).

I just went back and looked at the previous post. The Israeli data was tracking numbers of confirmed cases of infection, while this newer chart is tracking deaths. That may explain the difference.

That Israeli "study" was really an inconclusive "model."

Could coronavirus crisis be over in 2 weeks? - Technology & Health

The scientist in question (head of the Israeli SPACE agency) first says that "This is how it is all over the world. Both in countries where they have taken closure steps like Italy and in countries that have not had closures like Taiwan or Singapore." Except Hong kong, Singapore, and Taiwan have taken and continue to take severe measures including mass quarantine..

Coronavirus Lessons From Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong

Then this Space scientist says "It's clear to us how the epidemic is starting and what is causing the increase. What is causing the moderation is unclear. Therefore, I propose that we end the closures immediately after the current week. We will start increasing the workforce from 15 percent to fifty percent and in two weeks we will reach 100 percent."

It is unclear what is causing the moderation, THEREFORE he proposes on the basis of not knowing any better that the world ends the closures.

Also, while published six days ago we do not know when the data used in the flawed model ended. We know it is at least a week old. Heck, go back to January and use that data and this guy would be telling us nothing to worry about it isn't going to spread at all.

Deaths and infected are 2 difrent things

If you look even at the US states you will find the numbers are all over the road, One state might have for instance Connecticut 17,962 Infected with 1,127 dead and TX with 19,317 and only 499 dead

You will see this kind of Up and Down numbers as you look through the States and through the countries

Like UK 120,067 infected and over 16K dead But Germany 145,742 infected and only 4,600 dead

You couldn't say social distancing has anything to do with the death percentages It's only a marker if the Infected rate is much higher

The ratio variation can also vary depending on how steep the curve is in each location, because there is a delay between diagnosis and death, or even the age of those affected. A location can have a low ratio merely because of a surge in new patients, however, over time, the mortality rates follow the model.
