Pregnant & Uninsured?

Unic,

It sure seems like that's possible. Further, since it's effective "on the date of application", you can apply while getting those emergency procedures and have it be covered. Don't even have to plan ahead to game the system.

I hate it when politicians go on emotions instead of logic. Usually, I've found that it's the conservatives that do this (I think there's actually studies that show the more conservative you are, the more you make decisions based on emotion) but this proves that it's just as harmful when liberals do it.

Pregnancy and other planned claims shouldn't even be covered by insurance. I thought insurance was for unforeseen occurrences.

That is until we passed Obamacrap with bipartisan support (both democrat and "indpendents.")

Rick

Mandatory maternity care sounds nice on the surface until you see what it enables. It sends the wrong message to young women to portray having children as free or inexpensive.

And we wonder why we have the highest rates of teen pregnancy in the developed world and one of the highest rates of children raised by single parents in the world.

I'm sure the next generation consisting of up to 25% unplanned children will be in good hands...

I'm pretty sure that Medicaid provides most of the benefit for teen pregnancy, both before and after Obamacrap.

But I do get your point. Free stuff always encourages more utilization.

During the last Open Enrollment I had a family with a pregnant wife/mom who chose to stay on Medicaid because all the care was 100% free. No Co-pays or Deductibles. The husband and their two toddlers enrolled in an Obamacare QHPlan.

I have no idea what medical tests, checkups, etc.. are involved with being pregnant. But apparently, it's not all free.

It's not all "free" - plans simply have to offer maternity coverage - where in the past many did not in the individual market. So tests like sonograms, etc. would count toward deductible, like any other lab test would. If Medicaid in your state did pay for everything, it most certainly would be a better financial deal than a standard insurance plan would be.
