Progressive Rates

Honestly, I have been moving my business from my ultra-preferred carriers toProgressive. They train their customer service reps well and they give thempower to make changes. I don't have to talk to more than one person to get ananswer or a change made.

We just had an awesome experience where a claim that was done right by Progressiveis leading high net worth people to our agency. The couple Progressive helpedwas very impressed which was not a surprise to me. You can call themsubstandard because they take high risk drivers but they have good claims and good customer service. Iwill not do business with non-standard companies because there claim, customerservice, and philosophy suck. Progressive does umbrella up to 5 million and 500CSL on the auto.

They also have great special lines products. Their home partnership with ASIis just ok. There is no perfect company but they have a lot of upside. I havehad more negative experience with MetLife, Travelers, Hartford/AARP thanProgressive, so I feel like I am helping my clients and happly making less.

They are pretty good on the personal side but as of late I have been saving my non standard market clients a ton by moving them from Progressive to Unitrin....
Also though they seem to be great for commercial auto when you get into the Dump truck and Agg hauling scene Ive been smoking them by thousands and more coverage to boot with Allied here in Utah...

Oh and by the way there has been some questioning to whether or not you can BOR/AOR a client from Progressive Direct... just spoke to a rep today about this... The answer is NO NO NO for personal, however Direct Commercial the Rates are the same and they can be BOR/AORed on a commercial account however it is frowned upon. Just did a BOR from the Commercial side Direct because they were in process of setting up our Utah Child Code...

Progressive is a named owner policy. do you know what that is?

Sooner or later, you will have claim issues with every company you have.

I cant believe you move "ultra-preferred" clients to Progressive, thats going backwards.
You must not have many good companies, because Progressive is usually in the bottom third of all my quotes.

Good Luck to you thou!

Who is on top of your rater?

Well if you believe it is a named owner policy that is fine. I just had aclaim where the driver wasn't listed and they paid out. Progressive doesn't cutcorners.

So since I mentioned AARP, Hartford, Travelers, and MetLife I am guessingyou don't do business with these companies? At least that is the way you come across?

My opinion of your opinion is that you feel Progressive should pay you more.It is not the issue of the policy terms.

I have issues with Progressives policy, and then the commission.

In my area Metlife rates are usually double. it all comes down to zip codes here, I have AARP travelers, and probally 20 other P&C carriers, so the "top of the rater" varies pretty much every quote,

Say you have $500,000 in premium with Progressive, your comm is $50,000, when with every other carrier, it would be $75,000. That doesnt bother you? Add the difference up over a 10 year period. That definately bothers me.....BUT I will also add, in my area, Progressive isnt competitive at all in my area, so I really dont write much with them. But I will say, I would obviously write with them, rather than lose the business.

What area are you located in?

I will add, Progressive's website has TONS and TONS of info for agents, help in marketing, they tell you how and when the advertising is hitting so you can market along with them, Prog name is great for marketing. They have lots of training things also, their overall website is probally number 1 in my book

I am in Southern Arizona. You are right about the Zip Codes and area makinga difference. In certain zip codes we really don't do any business with thembecause the other carriers have extremely low rates. We just happen to havesome zip codes close to our office where Progressive's rates are great.

They do a lot for our agency and I am sincere when I say they take care ofour clients. If you were in an area where business was good and writing morepolicies they do have higher commissions for agents. I love the comprehensivepolicies that companies like Chubb offer but for people with average creditProgressive policies are a good fit. They have a lot of tools for agents andwant to help us compete against the captives with discounts like Snapshot. Wehave several clients who have got the full 30% with snapshot. I use snapshot asa referral tool and it has brought in more than we lost in commission.

Where are you?

I am in the SE Valley.....
Up here, Prog isnt that good, so its not a big deal to not use them, way too many other carriers.

Progressive has some great niche markets for insurance.

RV and motorcycles?

I've always quote with progressive first since i got a rater and direct access. But i always get back 2300/6 month premiums. I have no idea what they are thinking, when the client's car is worth 3000 dollars they want over 4k per year. I've compared geico and allstate with this and they all get 500-800/6 months.

They are my carrier of LAST RESORT for the reasons already mentioned.

- The compete with the IA market with their direct program
- Lowest commissions in the industry
