Progressive Rates

I know that geovera (earthquake) will take over policies if the client calls to reinstate a lapsed policy directly with them. Not sure that they would offer a discount to do it though.

I've seen progressive give us policies when an existing client called progressive directly for a new quote. We have downloads show up on policies we didn't even know about. That doesn't sound like a company trying to steal its agents' policies.

I don't believe this:

In Florida, besides having high rates, Progressive will also take clients away from you. For example, if you (through your agency) writes a client through Progressive and the client later calls Progressive for any reason, they will your client a 5% discount for firing you (the agent) and going direct!

A couple of agents I know personally have told me this recently as that is what their clients were told by Progressives csrs. So yeah, beware of Flo!

One of our current customers called Progressive directly for a boat quote. Progressive did the quote, and transferred the customer to us. All we did was take the payment, and the policy is ours. This happened this morning.

progressive needs to decide if they are going to be a direct carrier or an agency based carrier. Having two products with the same name with huge differences in rate is terrible for consumers. Its also terrible for independent agents who work hard to earn the business and have direct swipe it away because they often are 20 to 30 percent cheaper..Say nothing about "bundling" which Progressive promotes but few if any independent agents can offer.I know someone will just say "fine"=don't write Progressive, but thats not easy...

although I agree with you, I don't see anyone stopping them anytime soon. In fact, I won't be surprised if other companies start doing the same thing (selling both directly and through agents).

one good thing I will say about Progressive is that they seem to have a high retention rate. I had to switch a few clients over when the Maryland fiasco went down, but overall, progressive policies tend to stay on the books.

What baffles me is why they only let a few agencies sell homeowners and umbrella. They would bring in a lot more money if they opened that up to all agents.
