The wife is active in BNI and FNI, but I've always trained my agents on selling the concept of life insurance as opposed to pushing product on clients. And it works like a charm.

I was referring to the referral technique. I can remember when I was in BNI, they always said don't be too broad when asking for referrals. Never say "someone", be specific. I always liked that and use it to this day.
 
Agreed. I've received exactly zero referrals from asking if someone they know needs life insurance. By being specific and referencing insurance needs in a better way the referrals happen.
