Public Health Care Option

This was about the funniest thing I've ever seen Winter post. I don't know much about him, but it is obvious he knows zero about American politics.

He theory is the same one we (those on the left) said about Nixon in 1968... that there would be some kind of magical "backlash" about the war and that the Reps. would be Nixon's worst enemy and that eventually a "peace" candidate would emerge who would, with a "mystical" Dem and Rep coalition, take down the Nixon presidency.

What we had was George McGovern, and Nixon squashed him like a bug.

If I didn't know better I'd say that Winter has a stash of some really good hash and that he does a cube before he posts here.

I hate to tell him that Goldwater didn't beat Johnson, Mondale didn't beat Reagan, and Dole didn't beat Clinton. When a president is personally popular, no one beats him. Carter was unpopular (never was too popular in the first place... if Ford had not pardoned Nixon he would have won... what an ***) and Bush-1 blew it by promishing not to raise taxes and did... another ***. "Read my lips" my ass!

With or without health care Obama will be re-elected the same way that Clinton was re-elected. Because as Winter simply does not understand, you can't beat somebody with nobody.

In the entire Rep. party there is not one person in office today who has the ability to out-debate, out class, or out-argue Obama. Limbaugh might have a shot, but as an ex pill-popper who bought himself out of that mess, he would have no political standing.

If the Reps block health care, it virtually insures Obama's re-election if not an even larger Dem majority in 2010. He will run against the "Dr. No" party and will rack up a major mid-term Congressional victory to say nothing of his own re-election.

Face it Winter, there is not one viable scenario that you or any other neo-con can come up with that will see you guys either re-capture both houses of Congress, much less the White House.

It reminds me of that oft-told riddle that went around during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war:

Q: Why will the Jews win in the Middle East?

A: Because in the entire world there is not one camel that can catch a Cadillac

Al

Both Dems and Republicans are concerned about the direction of stimulus programs current and proposed, and health care programs, current and proposed. Your contribution to the discussion as always is: Obama won the election and Sarah Palin can't beat him in the next election and Alabama 1958. Similarly, both dems and republicans are are at odds with each other and inter-tribally in California over the dire issues there. Your contribution to the discussion: The dems are still in charge of the legislature in CA and that is all that counts.

You point out that Nixon won twice. Ahh, okay. That is all you need and needed to know since you are only focused on the political hack aspect. If your mind actually dropped down to policy issues though you would recall that there was the Nixon who esaclated the war in Vietnam by bombing Cambodia and the Nixon who also surrendered and retreated. It made a lot of difference to the life of the nation even though he was elected and re-elected.

Similarly, there will be considerable advancement and retreat with Obama and his various mis-adventures in the economy and healthcare. Since you do not concern yourself with public policy, you only have to conclude that no one can beat him next time around and you have answered anything you need to know. Not so for many, including dems. There is a long way to go in sifting through the issues nationally and in CA but since your only interest is in presidential election outcomes you can just hang in the closet like a bat for the next 3.5 years and be all set. When you come out you will see some changes in CA and nationally.

Winter: Al, what do you think about the effectiveness of Obama's stimulus plan and his chances of getting a public option approved given the growing backlash toward government spending?

Al: No one can beat Obama in 2012.

Winter: Al, what do you think CA should be doing to fix the budget mess and do you think that the crisis will have implications for Obama's programs as people start to panic about the level of public debt.

Al: Sarah Palin will never get elected in 2012 and Nixon beat McGovern in a landslide victory.

And so it goes..............

I can make a pretty good case that Jesus was a gay.

!

Al, if you smoked enough dope you could try to convince everyone that Jesus was a Californian. He never cut his hair, had a beard, wore sandals, tried to take from the rich to give to the poor, and was always trying to start a new religion. Think about it! Ewww man, like feel the love.

rational self interest is not the same as greed it is simply the human fact that we are all looking out for #1 100% of the time whether we are honest enough to admit it or not.

Obama Wants Senate Health Bill By Week's End

Believe it or not, a LOT is at stake with this "line in the sand" August deadline Obama set for introduction of health care legislation.

If he misses that deadline he stands to lose a lot of clout and credibility. If he loses this one the public is going to move to a "whatever" mentality every time he announces that there's gonna be change.

He is all but "ordering" the Senate to draft any kind of legislation so he doesn't come out looking like a boob. Will it happen...a bill drafted by the end of this week? Not a shot in hell. To me this is everything Obama is about; change for the sake of change so he can have a good public image. Does he want to take some time to make sure it's the RIGHT kind of legislation? No - just draft anything! Make me look good!

No tin foil hat here guys; the industry is throwing around MAD MONEY to get this issue buried.
