Question About Appointment Setting

That company will probably tell you that a top producer will set 10+ appointments in an hour. $50 an hour sounds pretty good doesn't it? I'm sure people are lined up outside the door.

What else does the company provide - any fringe benefits at all? Is there a bonus for meeting daily quotas? This is low pay for this type of work but at least it isn't paying people $10/hour without production incentives.

Well, if I set 2 appointments an hour, I am actually getting paid $10 and hour and they are not offer any type of incentive or bonuses...

Welcome to the world of performance based compensation.. If you set an agent 3 appointments and he sells nothing he is out the cost of the leads and has earned $0 per hour.

You say you have done telemarketing successfully elsewhere, why would you doubt you could do it here? The only way to know for sure is to do it. You may just be able to set 5 - 10 per hour. :1smile:

My only comment is this. I got appointed with a companies carriers. They told me they would set appointments for me $30 per appointment 10 appointments paid in advance. By the time all the contracting was complete and before I sent in the $300 they shut down the appointment setting because they were losing money.

I think $5 per appointment set is low even if calling off returned mailers. The other issue is how many agents can you really take on almost every agent is going to want 3 to 5 appointments set for the next day to keep them happy not to mention the learning curve of different geographic areas. I am in Maine and say you set two appointments for me 2 hours apart but 1 is in Jittery and the other is bangor I can't even drive between those two in 2 hours let alone having an appointment.

Also this always begs the question of if you can set appointments why not spend a little time and a little money and get. Your insurance license and book your own appointments and earn the commissions yourself.

That's really the point, we know how much we are paying for telephone leads. She is getting paid $5/appointment with no fringe benefits- if she does really well she can make around $50/hr. Could she do better independently? Probably but she needs to generate clients first.

Your doing well if you get one good appointment every two hours for final expense.

That is NEVER going to happen.

5-10 appointments an hour??? Really, come on. I think the overwhelming consensus is that 1-2 appointments per hour is really good and $5 per appointment is extremely low. I really don't have an interest in selling insurance. It's a psychological thing for me. If I know I'm not really selling an actual product, just trying to get a qualified appointment, I do much, much better.

As to whether that figure is realistic or not is something I can't really address since I have never been an appointment setter. As an agent, I would not expect the appointment setter to know anything about "selling insurance".. Their job is to set the appointment.. My job is to make the sale.

Very well said. A lot of sales people (not just agents) want the telemarketer to do their job for them. As you said, the telemarketers job is to set Tue appointment, not qualify the lead.

Well at least you have a realistic perspective. The company will give your the highest numbers possible to get you to work for them because they either can't get people to work for them or stay. It's a revolving door.
