Reform Talking Points

Here's the latest cheat sheet your Congressional representatives and Senators (well the Democrats at least) will be using to "steer" the message of reform to more favorably position the party for the fall elections.

Talking points ppt

For those of you in a hurry, slide #8 gives a "real life" third person example of how to communicate with voters (because we now know that communicating the actual points of the law is not effective in persuading people). It is paraphrased below.

Notice what's missing: the fact that this family can't afford the cost of the health insurance even if it does cover their kids' pre-existing condition. Nor does it discuss that the Democrats are increasing taxes on small business owners which makes it much less likely that the lady's husband will get a new job (w/ bennies) any time soon.

Hi. My name is Lindsay, I am a 23 year old working mother. My son has asthma. My husband lost his job and now we have to buy our own health insurance but the insurance companies won't cover my son's pre-existing condition.

I've heard that the new reform law that the Democrats passed will make it illegal for insurance companies to deny pre-existing conditions for children like my son. I'm really glad to hear that and I sure don't want this kind of law to be repealed.

Re: Reform "talking Points"

Best is the last point on the last slide of "Do Nots":

Do not say the law will reduce costs and deficits.

Um, wait, wasn't that why this bill had to be passed in the first place, so that it could reduce costs and deficits? :D

The American public have to be some of the most gullible people on earth.

Everyone will get free health care, we will only tax the rich, you will have more choices, lower rates, better benefits, no one will be denied coverage or have their coverage cancelled even if they get sick and we will reduce the deficit.

The only ones that should reasonably buy in to that are those who never got past the third grade.

So, what are you all doing now and in the future? Does this mean our careers are doomed? How does one keep up the enthusiasm and sign new clients with the threat of no commissions for our hard work looming ahead? Why bother? Or can we make the most of the money now and then switch to life, critical care, senior policies, etc.??? Jbage2007 - you sure seem to now a lot about this - thank you for sharing your info! Sue

Call John at IHIAA.com , he's been staying on top of this and can give you some good feedback or you can send me a private message or email about attending the webinar he is doing with us this Tuesday at 1:00 PM Eastern Time where he will be addressing a lot of the questions you and a lot of health agents are asking in reference to what to do now in light of health care reform.

Is this kind of encouraging?
"While a long list of lawsuits are pending against Obamacare, most challenging its underlying constitutionality and seeking to cancel the entire concept, WND also has reported that more than three-quarters of the needed members of the U.S. House of Representatives have signed on to a measure to have a new vote on Obamacare that essentially would allow the chamber to withdraw its approval of the law and begin the process of banishing it.
The plan is a discharge petition offered by Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, which is being supported by a petition drive that urges members of Congress to repeal Obamacare because of numerous problems.
Under the provisions of the discharge procedures in the House, such a move is required to have the support of 218 members, a majority, of the 435-member chamber before moving forward.
But since it requires a majority, it is virtually assured of approval.
The proposal states: "Pursuant to clause 2 of rule XV, I, Steve King of Iowa, move to discharge the Committees on Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means, Education and Labor, the Judiciary, Natural Resources, Rules, House Administration and Appropriations from the consideration of the bill (H.R. 4972) to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which was referred to said committees on March 25, 2010, in support of which motion the undersigned Members of the House of Representatives affix their signatures."
Its target is the $940 billion, or greater, bill adopted by the Democrat-controlled Congress in March.
Advocates say constituents need to call their representatives to tell them to get on board right away so that the petition is positioned to move forward whether or not the GOP becomes the majority in the House after the 2010 fall elections.
Sign the petition opposing Obamacare."
Shouldn't we sign it and in the spirit of Chicago politics, sign again and again and again??;)

Legitimate challenges to Obamacrap will come in the courts and in Congress if Republicans take control, especially if both houses. They can choke it off by cutting funding.
