Replacement Business

I think more people get worked over for thousands of dollars in less coverage by their insurance agent than would ever get worked up by thousands by the funeral home.

Funeral homes have to go b their general price list and compete with other funeral homes. Insurance rates are more of a mystery to the public than funeral prices.

Thanks for your responses, as I said earlier I don't sell LH OA SL, I am trying to make some sense of the final expense market. Outside of assigning to a funeral home there are some like Foresters who notorious for claims paying and customer service and up until the premium changes they were on the final expense kings row. As for my mother, I would sell her the best I could find, however if my neighbor can afford to pay 3.00 a month more and it pays me an extra 10%, he will be offered the one for 3.00 more. I pay my bills, he doesn't, and if he needs to pay a little more to get the same coverage, so be it. He just smoked up more than that with a pack of cigarettes. I like JD's thought process of limiting his offerings to A rated companies, Scott I believe you are not a proponent of fraternals. I guess we all have to believe in our own process.

Foresters is terrible on claims in the contestable as are most companies. I can't think of one that is not. Americo is notoriously bad. On par with LH bad.

But, every one of these companies will pay fast once it's out of contestability, even Foresters. Americo is so easy to deal with on the out of contestable claims that you would swear it's two different companies.

As for the fraternal question, I write regularly. RNA is a fraternal. And RNA has paid every contestable claim I've had except one. And that lady admitted later that they with held some info about something he was going to the VA about. That guy died 23 months into the policy.

It's always a guessing game with these companies during contestable claims. The largest FE policy i ever sold has been on the books 2 years today. I don't think it would have been denied but I still did a little happy dance today.:twitchy:

And I shouldn't be doing that with a ruptured disk.:twitchy:

Ouch, I had a disk rupture back when I was 25. I can give you some wordly advice but it all depends on how severe it is and at what age. I just did all the strength exercises and therapy, NEVER go to the chiropractor. For the most part, some of the best exercies that I learned where from the interenet or self taught.

What doctors and therapist never mentioned to me, and what I found out on my own, is that it is very important to strengthen your lower back muscles. It is a big deal why you got injured in the first place. I have a specific exercise I do when I workout. I first stretch then pick up a couple light weight dum bells. I think go down like a regular stretch but only use my back muscles to life my body up....and I can tell you I am just under 40 and haven't had any back pain in a long while...

So go figure, the best things that worked for me where never given by my doctor.

It's like needles in a haystack to find any good doctors or lawyers for that matter.

As far as your condition, take it easy and don't do that exercise yet!!..just stick to the basic stretches if you can do them.....

Surgery could be in your cards, but usually end up worse but they have come a long ways with the fusion techniques.

I don't write any company for life that is not A rated.

I am curious with final expense, why the concern for an A rated carrier? I understand with annuities where clients are likely to inquire, or if E&O only covers A rated carriers. Final expense are such small face amounts so reserves are not as important as if you were selling million dollar policies.

If a carrier has strong financials, I take the AM Best rating with a grain of salt. You mentioned Oxford Life/Christian Fidelity not being A rated...Monumental/Transamerica is A+ rated yet according to Standard Analytical, Oxford Life has a better solvency ratio...$123 compared to $105 per $100.

I understand the marketing pitch of only selling A rated carriers, was just curious if there was more to it.

I could be wrong but I do not think most FE companies are A rated. Seems that most are A- Oxford I believe is B++.

May not be anything to it but that just how I roll.

It's pretty bad. I first had a problem last Memorial weekend. We were at a friends pool for the weekend and I couldn't hardly get up because of pain in my left hip. But, once I got up and got moving it was fine. I just din't play ball for a few weeks and it got better.

Then last fall it flared up again in the left hip. I went to the doctor that time and he said he thought it was bursitis and he gave me a cortisone shot in the left hip. In a few days I was fine and went back to running and played basketball all winter. Towards the end of Jan it was bothering me again in the left hip but also down the left leg. I went back to the doctor that gave me the shot and told him I needed another one. He said he thought it was sciatic nerve issues along with the bursitis and gave me another shot.

It got progressively worse from there instead of better. After a couple of weeks he prescribed some hydrocodone and said I should see an orthopedic specialist. When I saw him he did abunch of x rays on the hip and couldn't find anything. He felt it was my back. He set me up for an MRI. By the time I had the MRI, {2 weeks ago yesterday}, I could barely walk. Even taking the hydrocodone every 4 hours. In fact by the time I got in the building I was so weak they had to take me back to the MRI in a wheelchair. The PA had to help me onto the table.

I have what he called a "fractured disk" between the L5-S-1 and the fractured piece was pressing against the nerve to my left hip and leg. He felt surgery was needed but wanted to send me to the foremost back surgeon in our area for a second opinion and, if he also felt surgery was needed that he should be the one to do it.

At that point I would have begged for surgery. I couldn't sleep in the bed at night. I couldn't stand for more than a couple of minutes. I had to sleep in the living room in a recliner sitting up and that taking oxycodone which they had moved me to because the hydrocodone wasn't cutting it. By the time I saw the specialist last Monday it was bit better.

He said surgery was indicated but he thought I should try therapy first. I've been going 3 times a week and the exercises get more strenous each time. I was so much better by last Friday that I wouldn't have believed it if you had told me. I haven't had one of the strong pain pills since last week.

I worked a full week this week for the first time in a month. I've had more trouble this week but I attribute that to the extra work they have me doing. Every night after therapy this week I've had to get up and take some pain pills but I've been taking advil.

I go back to the specialist at the end of the month. He said if it's not a lot better he would schedule surgery or if the therapy made it much worse then we should do surgery.

I feel like now that I won't need surgery. I'm planning on going to Nashville next week for the SEC.

My basketball playing days are over though. Even when I get through this I'm done. I've played all my life and even played one year at Murray State. I hate to give it up but I can't do this again.

I wish you the best with your back JD. I can certainly relate and hope you don't require surgery.
I also wish you comfort in those seats in Nashville and maybe Kentucky can pull a tournament championship for you.

why do you think Americo outsells RNA for EFES?

Because EFES pushes Americo harder most likely because they have a higher contract and renewals with them.

They also sell more because they give a higher contract to the agent to help them push it more. BUT...the agent does not get any renewals with Americo with EFES because of the higher contract.

Anytime an IMO pushes a carrier hard....it's all about the money. Period.

Some people are all about money. Some people are about what's right. Some people don't know the difference.
