The Republicans need to lay off the retarded pills for awhile. They're causing serious brain damage from the looks of this proposal.

How is the choice not with the consumer now? S/he chooses whether to buy insurance or pay a tax. Honestly, I think being penalized "now" instead of "if I ever get sick" is more likely to get young people to sign up for insurance, thereby reducing the cost for everyone. My guess is that after the first penalty tax, a lot more young people are going to decide to get insurance.
What part of the word 'mandate' don't you understand? Mandate means you must do something. Not having a mandate doesn't force you to do it. Pretty easy. Being penalized for choosing not to buy something is not giving consumers a choice. A choice is to either buy something or not buy something. By penalizing someone for not buying is not giving them a choice.
A choice doesn't have to be between something and nothing. A choice can be between two different things. People get penalized for choices every day.
If that is how you want to justify it, go for it. You are in the minority and it is obvious that debating this with you is pointless as you feel it's all hunky dory the government forcing people to buy something they don't want.
They don't want it until they need it.
They can't get it when they need it.
If they don't have it we all pay for it.
Which still doesn't justify mandating private citizens enter into private contracts with businesses. It's a liberty thing for me.
Hell, we are all paying for it under Obamacare. Where is the improvement?
