Republicans Take Over House, Now What?

I'm merely a political junkie and haven't a clue what happens next. But would love to provide my opinion/guess.
1. Repeal is out of the question.
2. Tweaking of HCR will occur under "delay and dismantle" And as we all know, the devil is in the details. There will be compromises galore. MLR?
3. Can House block funding, for such items as Exchange? Stay tuned.
4. The House will push pretty hard. They will "embarass" dems to vote for HCR, at their peril. The Senate will push back a bit. One overlooked item is that Senate dems who are up for reelection in 2012 will loathe to defend HCR. So although Sen dems still majority, it is a weak majority. There will be a handful of Senate dems that will side with republicans, which could be significant.
5. Obama will push HCR very quietly, through the agencies. He will have successes there.
6. Courts
7. In my home state of PA, we now have a republican governor. This is being overlooked, but should not be. The ultimate fight might be state to state.

It was a good day for agents and America.

Its going to be a multi election long haul to get this pig ass health bill dismanted and repealed. Can it be done ? Maybe. Tough work, long road - yes.

As another political junkie, I'd say I mostly agree with all of that and would like to add a couple of things....

1. I think we will see a symbolic "total repeal of HCR" bill come out of the House....of course it won't go anywhere.....

2. I think some HHS funding can be blocked in the "delay and dismantle" department....this could happen ahead of the exchange implementation....when Congress tackles the federal budget, I wouldn't be surprised to see HHS's budget axed by the House.....however, this may be a tricky balancing act to pull off without shutting down the gov't altogether (and we know how that worked out back in the 90's)

3. From a strategic perspective, I'm starting to think that not having the majority in the Senate could actually help in the 2012 presidential race......I don't see any significant economic uptick between now and then, and republicans owning the house and senate going into 2012 with a bad economy plays well into reelection of the big "O" IMHO.......

4. Regarding 2012, I still think the PCIP may be a wildcard that plays into the Democrats favor.....although enrollment is currently low (from what I've seen) if the PCIP comes up for refunding prior to 2012 and the house tries to block it, it could turn into a nasty fight that favors Democrats......imagine TV ads featuring little Johnny PCIP who can't get his chemo meds b/c the house wont refund the PCIP.....

5.

Winning only the House is going to be a positive. If the House tries repeal and Obama veto's, +1 for 2012 election. If he starts blocking everything and blaming the GOP on obstruction he's in trouble. Remember, American's have spoken, they don't care for Obamacare or his other policies.

2014 is D-day for the reform bill but Obama could go down in 2012. If both the House & Senate were flipped yesterday that would've given him power to blame everthing on Congress. Now he can't. Agents won yesterday, you guys just have to look down the road a bit. The big picture will come into view. Have faith and hold tight!

If ANYONE thinks you will somehow keep your 20% FYC, dream on. Won't happen. That ship sailed already and was sunk just outside the harbor, no getting it back.

Beyond that, do you really care about MLR? Or is the question really in context to keeping commissions?

I would like to see the House have hearings on the details of the HCR. Then when the general public can see what happens when socialistic ideas hit real life markets.

I would love nothing better than to see Kathleen Sebelius on the stand explaining her role in the Gov. take over of health care. She truly believes in a big Gov. and it will show if she is questioned.

If the public understands what this law is all about then the house can withhold funding to it.

The house does not have the power to repeal it but they can expose it.

As for the Senate Dem's are running for cover because they are up for reelection in 2 years. So I don't expect to many of them to put up a huge fight.

I still think our position in the health care equation is in jeopardy. If the state do not allow us to make a comp on the exchanges we are done. Most agents will be done from the commission cuts that coming.

The public, at least those allowed to vote, is not as educated as you want to believe.

They don't believe Barney Frank had anything to do with the mortgage collapse.

They think Christine O'Donnell is a witch.

They think Sharron Angle (and several other Republicans) want to take away their Social Security and Medicare.

They don't really like Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer or Nancy Pelosi but they keep voting for them any way.

They believe the government has an unlimited supply of money.

They think health care is a right and Obamacrap is free.

They believe Bush stole the election from Gore.

How do you fight that kind of ignorance?
