Republicans Take Over House, Now What?

The public, at least those allowed to vote, is not as educated as you want to believe.

They don't believe Barney Frank had anything to do with the mortgage collapse.

They think Christine O'Donnell is a witch.

They think Sharron Angle (and several other Republicans) want to take away their Social Security and Medicare.

They don't really like Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer or Nancy Pelosi but they keep voting for them any way.

They believe the government has an unlimited supply of money.

They think health care is a right and Obamacrap is free.

They believe Bush stole the election from Gore.

How do you fight that kind of ignorance?

Fire. By literally burning the stupid people. It's the only chance we have.

Did you guys NOT see the Obama press conference at1:00 today?

He basically said he will go along with some changes to the HCR bill he mentioned specifically the 1099 requirement as too burdensome.

Keep your heads up guys things are looking better for us.

What you all are not seeing is how many Dems got tossed out in State Assemblies, County Positions, Judges, City Offices ect. This IS HUGE!

Quite a few new R Governor's as well. This means a lot for redistricting which will affect the 2012 national elections.

If ANYONE thinks you will somehow keep your 20% FYC, dream on. Won't happen. That ship sailed already and was sunk just outside the harbor, no getting it back.

Beyond that, do you really care about MLR? Or is the question really in context to keeping commissions?

Dan

You're right about the ship sinking, it didn't just spring a leak, it was torpedoed and the health insurance agents that were onboard are now flailing around in Shark infested waters and few will survive.

It seems to me that the insurance companies will adjust to doing less business, without agents. That online direct model will not work as easily for the health companies and they're going to have to reduce staff to make it anyway.

Yep. Mixed bag in IL. A Rep Governor would have been nice, but he's a douche.

It was a lose-lose situation for us, either way.

:GEEK:
as another political "junkie" it looks like most people do not care did not vote and can be lead to the shed with any kind of bait around- I did listen to Obama at 1:00 today- I also heard what he was saying during this past election and during his own election - during his own campaign - he started out left- that was not working to well- so he eluded to the center- he never actually said he would act in that fashion- he led you to believe that he might- then during the midterms- first- he was going to compromise- then he was not going to compromise- now here we are day after a red hurricane across the country---
what did you think he was going to say today? Let's see what he does-
what Obama wants most of all is to be re-elected- he stareted working on that six months ago- in fact maybe he never stopped

Yesterday was a good day for agents. Or at least better than other the other bad news we've gotten for 2 yrs. I think this means moderation of the bill, like the onerous 1099 requirement. There are many other items that any moron would agree with changing.

I agree that the battle was won in the states.

In AZ, the ballot measure passed at least allowing us to avoid Obamacare. Expect the state to be sued by the feds, but at least it's a hurdle. Couple that with a repub governor + many other repubs in state gov't, and insurance commissioner appt's and you have a good environment to protect agents

In FL, Dem Alex Sink, current ins commish, LOST. Add in Rubio and you have a more agent friendly state.

Commissions will go lower, but our role will be preserved, our business equity preserved, albeit reduced levels. Better than a complete wipeout of renewals.

I don't see any changes happening............they don't have the power to.

Are you kidding me?

They have one of the largest majorities in the House in all of history.

No power?
:D

Hardly!

They can strangle the entire Gov't if they want to - all in the name of creating leverage to get what they really want.

Question is - what DO they want?

I know what WE want - but not sure Congress shares OUR perspective.

Ignorance? What you talking about bubba? Far as I can tell, everything you listed there is true.

Except one.

And I ain't saying which one that is.

Based on interviews with new and existing Republican leadership today, things are looking more positive than ever. Here's are some of the most notable interview highlights:

Republicans Look To Use Majority For Health Overhaul Repeal, Plan Vote - Kaiser Health News

I really like the fact that Congress will begin work on repealing and/or choking off the funding for the most controversial parts of Obamacare. I don't see them touching much of what's gone into effect thus far, however. The public in general isn't mad about the child protections, or the preventive-care freebies. They don't even know about the MLR mandates that we in the industry have followed so closely. I suppose it will be up to the insurance industry to lobby Congress for MLR adjustments, or outright repeal.
