Required Fields for Online Quote Engine?

Hi everyone,

I have been giving some thought on exactly which contact fields should be required before someone is allowed to run a Health Insurance quote from my online engine.

Option 1: Leave all fields non-mandatory (name, email, phone)
Option 2: Require name and email, leaving phone non-mandatory

Here is why this has come up for me. Every time someone runs a quote from my site I am notified. After I am notified I like to re-run the quote with a few of the best fit plans, IMHO, and email it to the prospect. I include some online application instructions and ask the person to call me with questions etc.

Here is the issue. If no email address is entered I don't get a notification. I can see the quoting history however. Several times I have seen multiple quote being run with the name "prospect 1, 2 etc" leading me to believe another agent might be running rates on my site.

I understand that people like anonymity when shopping online and I don't want to scare off potential clients with a required email field. I also don't pay for the system to produce leads with no way to contact them.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

The more mandatory fields you have, the more serious your prospect will be.

The less mandatory fields you have, the less serious your prospect will be.

It all depends on how highly you value your time.

SC...I think about that all of the time.

Email, date of birth, zip code and ht/wt are mandatory. I don't have the phone as a mandatory field but find about 35% leave their phone number. I don't usually call web-driven prospects anyhow, but that's about to change.
