Selling Insurance to low income people?

Re: Will you work with low income people?

I'm amazed at how many people don't have checking accounts these days.

I honestly do not remember the last time I talked to someone who didn't have a checking account. It has been years and years and years. Even then I may have only encountered two or three people who didn't have one.

OK, What is low income.

I am guessing $25,000 - $30,000 a year. Hell, $50,000 with a couple kids would be pretty rough to buy a home.

So what are you guys calling low income today? And and what State?

Re: Will you work with low income people?

3 months is a little long. I'm not opposed to helping anyone out, but I'm not dragging my feet with someone for 3 months. We're not babysitters or wrestlers.

I don't know what you're closing ratio is...but 3 mos is NOT long! Most health/life ins prospects drag their feet....they either have ins when they're looking and or have Cobra that will run out eventually, or they have been just fine for 10 yrs without ins and they're just looking! NOW, yes, I agree you gotta close them when they FIRST CALL, cuz that's when they're in their emotional state to BUY...so CLOSE IT CLOSE IT CLOSE IT...but really, sometimes that is not always an option w/ low income folks.
There will ALWAYS be these "Types" of prospects. That doesn't mean you let them go and stop following up with them. (to me anyway) I sold many clients after a six month to even a year of keeping in touch. 90-99% of my draggers eventually buy FROM ME...because I never pressure...and I never let them go! NEVER. So, three mos is NOT long. I disagree completely! I think you're doing great. I know this thread is LOW INCOME, so realize that that is what we're talking about. No one can know if the richest LOOKING prospect is poor or healthy...you can try to qualify them, but they're all prospects ....they're all DIFFERENT.
Please try not to be discouraged by the Jerky Turkey's in this forum, just ignore em. Don't let up on your draggers....call them to tell them about anything new in the industry, a law, any new dental option that just opened up etc. If you don't want to deal w/ draggers, find an agent that you want to give your draggers to. I'm in FL...anyone have any DRAGGERS you let me know! I'll happily give you 10% of my 10%! lol... (trust me, I'm not making tons of money off the draggers, but I don't give my prospects away)
(spell check please) :err:

I've had one client who paid w/ money order.
Most prospects have a checking acct. I agree.

Just because they are low income doesn't mean you can't do business with them. I have met so many clients that think they cannot afford insurance because it costs too much. I sit and give them few options, they usually will buy. One day their 20-25 dollar premium will turn into 200-300 premium when their situation gets better.

Ditto. There are exceptions. The rule is they are indeed time wasters. They'll happily sit at the table for 2, 3, 5 hours asking a ton of questions and even stroking a check. Doesn't matter since they know they're never going to pay for it.
