Selling Insurance to low income people?

Re: Will you work with low income people?

I agree.
I'll share one 55 yr old mans' viewpoint that was shared with me.
He had asked for info on health/life ins, determined to choose the right agent to work with. He told me he turned every agent who drove a nicer car than his away. (Yes I know, he's a freak) but, the point is....The Agent's drove to his house to try to sell him that drove a beemer or a Cadi Escalade etc were turned away. He was a freak. ...lol But, Customers are all different. And some people take advantage of new agents or agents in general!
You know, the weirdo's and insecure people who need to show they have control, (since they have control issues) are like this.
So, the point, let them come to you, that way they can't anaylize your car!... .lol....Dorky guy, I did not sell him~ not that day anyway, he's still thinking~(Broke) and I even drive a Saturn  For me, as a woman, it's out of the question. I won't meet at a home, and most single/divorced men, or even a married man in a bad marriage who hears a woman's voice on the phone will flirt and just make an appointment to meet her....WAIST OF TIME~ remember that ladies. Selling them over the phone is the best way, unless they have to look at the info in person~ Set the appt at your office for sure.~

Most people would prefer to buy insurance from a successful looking agent rather than an unsuccessful looking agent.

If you are gonna wait for the people to call/see you then selling auto insurance may work for you. Otherwise you will starve.

If it's a WAIST OF TIME, I suggest tightening the belt. That way you will not be having any time to WASTE!:D
It's a waste to correct it, you've done sooooo well editing~! God love ya~....:D

I don't WAIT for anyone to call. :DIs that what you got out of that~? Wow?! Odd..... just fyi...the point to my post was that I agreed that one should not go to other people's homes, but instead make them come to your office. Is your idea that Successful people must drive expensive cars to appear successful?...or is it your idea that successful people look unsuccessful if they drive a regular car/not a beat up or old, just a regular 2008 Saturn like mine....lol....It's ok, you don't have to answer, it's not important.

I don't worry about what other people think. When I sit down with a client who is LOW INCOME, since this is the thread we're writing about....I do my best to dress down, not all the way down..lol....but I don't wear my finest if I know a poor person is coming to get a GOBLUE PLAN w/ a HOSP/Surgical ~...lol...!

In my opinion, most low income folks are INTIMIDATED by snobby arrogant agents who feel they have to be impressive by appearing overly successful to get a sale, or to "show they are successful"...lol.... My POINT, we all know how to dress well, but...don't worry if you don't have a Benz~!
Oh, and I would NEVER ever ever starve in this business...it's too easy! I've never made easier money in my life.
Have an awesome MONDAY!

You know, perhaps a good rule to follow if you are driving to see clients, is to qualify carefully over the phone, run quotes and ask the lead "If we were able to get you approved at $30/mo., would that be a premium that you and your family would be comfortable with each month? Why don't you discuss it with your family and I'll give you a call tomorrow and if you're comfortable, I'll come by and we can do an application together."

This is just a suggestion, but I think low income people deserve help with insurance, and while we have to protect ourselves and out time, we owe it to our community.

Are you saying that you are changing your wardrobe after each appointment, and dressing according to the income level of the next appointment?:D

Re: Will you work with low income people?

Totally agree. I can't count how many Beemers I sold to the 30/40 year old set who earned 50K and walked out with $600/mo payments. Those are the "look at me" people who live check to check and want everyone to think they're successful.

Of course, I live in a neighborhood of "house poor" people - $400K to $500K townhomes yet our neighbors can't afford to take their son (my son's friend) to the carnival this week because it's "too expensive."

Oh my I have seen this so much! With people that earn a lot more than me! I suggest stopping at the mall to get the kids a pretzel or soda and they can't afford it but they live this very expensive lifestyle! And they are buying the neighbors $50+ Christmas presents during the holidays! Sorry but my neighbors get a card and plant sitting when they travel.

Re: Will you work with low income people?

Some of my nicest clients are low income. Have been talking with a couple for about 3 months, no life, have 2 young kids, wife scared to death if something were to happen. Got him examined for 500,000, projected premium of 35 per month. Came back with nicotine in his system. Smokeless tobacco he told his wife he had quit. rate now goes to 88 per month. Had lunch with him today, told him if he quit it would drop big time, I think he will. These folks need agents that will shoot straight with them.
