Im sure they are the best when compared against the average ppc lead.
But a higher quantity of so-so leads can be more profitable than just a few really good leads. It all depends. A really high conversion rate means nothing if there arent enough conversions to be profitable.
 
Having read through the reams of information in these posts, one point to add is that Google updated it's algorithm with a major change (called Hummingbird) a couple of months ago which emphasizes content and longer strings of key words more than simple 2/3 word keyword - it's text searching is now more sophisticated so content (which has always mattered) now matters even more.
