As many of us in the GI states have pointed out, don't assume that "state's rights" is going to get you out from under socialism. Many of the states are very, very pink these days and will try to compensate for anything that is not passed at the fed level or to foist their failed program on to the feds.

Here we have an example with California but of course the idea of California being a pink state is not news in any way. That is what they do. Must be because they manage their funds so well that they have extra left over for new programs.

California Senate OKs single-payer health plan

By freeing up dollars going to Medicaid & SCHIP they will be able to build more bridges so the illegals will have a place to sleep.

Pelosi really needs to step down. Now, one could easily argue that that is just one more rock I am throwing at Pelosi and that is my motivation. True in part, but think of it. We have dem reps from states that voted for McCain or have moderate voters yet the Speaker comes from a state/district where if you got naked and ran down the street with "universal health care" tatooed on your chest it would only increase the number of votes you would get.

Obama and Pelosi have worked their dem membership too hard this past year by sending them out to support an ill-conceived monstrosity that no one can explain. Probably didnt hut Pelosi a bit back in her district (I yield to the CA folks here) so she is perfectly willing to keep sounding the charge. Even if I were a lib congressman I would not want her or Reid driving the bus anymore.

If there are any libs here who think it makes sense to go forward with either Pelosi or Reid, then lay it on me. I will listen to anything. Looks to me like it is time for an oil change. Why would the dems want to be headed up by a lame duck in the Senate. Better to get him out before long so that it is not seen as a major blow to the party when he goes down in the fall.

Of course if Harry wants to go down and campaign with Blanche Lincoln, that's fine too.

Anyway, my original point was that the dems need a speaker who feels the same pain they do. Pelosi does not because she can do commie things and still get away with it in her district.

Winter,

Youll find this interesting. Greta Van Susteren did an interview with Olympia Snowe were she said the health care bill as it now stands is dead and she is no longer playing ball with the dems. The video is at gretawire.com

Yeh, that was good. Thanks for that.

Olympia is a moderate and eventually will side with the moderates and some here will start calling her a traitor again and all of that. I didnt hear much from those folks when Olympia voted against the bill as I suggested she would. Olympia is a very, very high integrity person. I remember back in the fall when I said that Obama was making a big, big mistake in siding with Harry Reid and Rahm over Olympia. She could jump in now and suggest some kumbaya timetable and strategy that would give the dems an out but you just dont scorn someone who has gone the distance the way she did and then try to take them down off the shelf again when you need them. May work in Chicago but not here.

Also, you figure Scott Brown is coming in and he is representing a New England state but has no republican congressman or Senate partner to conference with from his own state of Massachusetts. He is out there all by his lonesome. Guess who will be one of his best buddies before long: Olympia Snowe.

Lest people forget, Maine is a very poor state too and we have needs just like Louisiana and Nebraska but you would have to be totally nuts to try to bribe Olympia and no one in this state expects or wants her to bring home that kind of bacon and we will vote you out if you do. We dont want any of that Chicago puke here. I calculate that Olympia was over at the White House for breakfast at least ten times in Nov/Dec as part of Rahm's strategy. Hey, if Rahm likes pouring coffee for Olympia, then that's nice, because that is all a scumbag like that will get out of her.
