So I hear Cigna is going to

Re: And Now the Commission Reductions Begin

It will be interesting to see if the other carriers follow suit on this.

My gut tells me Cigna wants out of the individual market.

There individual product is not in every state and the states they are in could be test markets for them.

Re: And Now the Commission Reductions Begin

Just got the following from Cigna:

CIGNA is committed to delivering affordable, quality health plans in the markets we serve. Provisions of the
recently enacted Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) have necessitated changes in order for
CIGNA to remain cost competitive. As a result, effective October 1, 2010, commissions will no longer be paid
on any Individual & Family Plan policy containing one or more Guaranteed Issue customers.

Effective October 1, 2010, this change will impact:
 • Existing policies covering one or more persons on a Guaranteed Issue basis
 • New policies covering one or more persons on a Guaranteed Issue basis
For questions or more information, call CIGNA Sales Support at 1-877-CIGNA-15, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Eastern Time.

As always, we thank you for choosing CIGNA for your business.

* Guaranteed Issue is defined as a case that covers any customer under age 19 who would have been declined coverage prior to
the passing of PPACA or a HIPAA case.

"commissions will no longer be paid " ...... not good.

Re: And Now the Commission Reductions Begin

This will only effect cases where the child will be a 150% rate-up or a decline. In these particular cases you will not be paid a commission.

If its a perfectly healthy family fully underwritten you receive a commission.

Commission on GI with Cigna is a moot point anyway, at least in CA, since they don't pay HIPAA commission. So my question is certainly not about GI commission.

My question is this. Is Cigna saying that a case where a healthy underwriteable family has at least one member who needs to go GI (child GI or HIPAA) that, even though the GI person would be carved to a different coverage plan (HIPAA, child GI policy or rate up), Cigna will not pay any commission to the agent on the healthy portion of the case (the other members)?

Yes, that's exactly what they're saying. The carrier rep called me today, to let me know that my interpretation is correct.

He just called me Tuesday to let me know that I was in the double secret premium producer's club, and today to let me know that we're screwed.
