Social Security Planning

Hello all. I got to see Tom Hegna do a presentation on annuities/social security optimization and it looks like a great way to help people and also make alot of money with immediate annuities and permanent life insurance. Anyway, was wondering if anyone does this on a regular basis and any thoughts of positioning yourself as a social security expert as a lead in to many other opportunities?
If so, do you recommend any vendors for the optimization software?? So far looked at ssanalyzer.

When I was with NY Life I have watched Tom Hegna many times. His solutions will always lead to permanent insurance and guaranteed lifetime annuity. His presentation is very good. However, because NY Life does not sell indexed annuities, he will ignore them as a solution. I have taken some ideas from his presentation and add other product lines when appropriate. When you use lifetime income annuities and whole life insurance, you manage many risk factors, but you don't manage inflation risk very well.

The best author for that is Doug Warren CLU, the guy has written many of the annuity life combo solutions for social security max that companies use. If you do a pdf search of his name you can find the best annuity book on the market for free. Buy all his books, his SS software is amazing, lines up the indexed annuity/life as solutions for the taxes.

I do ss planning on a regular basis for my clients, it is just another tool in the tool kit.

Is it a worthwhile skill to have? Absolutely.

But you can't build a business writing Spia's and life insurance by offering social security planning only.

The best thing about social security planning is it leads to whatever direction you want.

You can use it as a tool, like you, or as a regular campaign to get in front of people to pitch your favorite product.

Like EE says, warren writes books and software on how to transition ss to offer fia's.

I don't know about Spia's and life insurance but there are people making a living only doing SS marketing.

Ive been doing 90% group health with a little individual health sprinkled in for about 8 years. Recently started doing med supps and after seeing/reading some of what others are doing with income distribution planning, I realized how I'm barely even scratching the surface. That's the beautiful thing about our business. You can do big things in so many niches. Get bored with one, transition to something else.

My point is that regardless of marketing, If an agent can only bring a social security optimization report and a chance to pitch a spia, it will be extraordinarily challenging for them to stay in business.

I am sure that you would agree with that.

I think anyone attempting to navigate retirement deserves better than to be pitched a favorite product.
