Starting in Final Expense

Time to get a shop downtown and start taking measurements. Wonder how much pine is in the Northwest now? Sounds like it could be a very lucrative venture if the Govt is paying.

I just started in FE. I would like to market Med Sup and offer FE, any suggests on marketing for the Med Sup. k

I have names and phone numbers of 3,000 50-65yrs. old.

Whats the best route to take in starting to sell Final EX?
The African American community here in the south where I live has always been a good group to target with final expense. If you live in a large urban area that has a sizable African American population. I try to target people ages 45-80 urban or rural with an annual income of $15,000-50,000.

45-80 ... good thinking ... i was focusing on 50+ .... i agree ... the black and hispanic populations are going to be your best target ... whites tend to not give a crap about their families ... in my area anyway ... same for the asian community ... well, honestly, I don't have an asian community here ... so i can't comment on that one ... BTW, what would you sell an asian ... I would think they would like larger face amounts ... yeah?

Please forgive me if I'm offending anyone ... but it's true, certain cultures are more prone to different needs ... blacks have bigger families and they are closer and they are more concerned about that funeral bill being passed on to family ... whites don't have much family and when they do, they either don't care or they have already paid for it somehow.

Am I wrong?

I have to agree with your point well taken, jody 108. Some years ago I was selling cemetery plots and I can tell you from experience that it was easier to make a sale in black neighborhoods.

I mostly agree. Also Blacks and Hispanics tend to be easier to get a review appointment with. Not to mention referrals. Every month we will get several calls from someone asking me to come write grandma, niece or someone. The business stays on the books as well.

We disagree as to Asians. At least South East Asians. Hmong, Laos and Cambodian. They are big time Insurance buyers. Tend to be Whole Life. Minimum face is $25,000. VERY family oriented. The oldest sons have the responsibility to take care of the needs of the elders. The funeral ceremony last three days, cost have risen to about $35,000. Good premiums and renewals.

As with most minorities. If you are honest and treat them with honesty and respect you are rewarded with referrals. However, if you do something wrong word travels fast.

WinoBlue,

So all that you care is about premium right? That's the reason why I got to this insurance service. My father according to his age in the "legal paperwork" is 85, that's why he cannot get any insurance. 5 years ago, at the age of 80 an insurance agent sold him a $15K policy for $380/month ( I dont know what it is) probably a FE, and he bought it. When I went down to visit him, I just CANCEL THAT POLICY, becuse my grandpa died at 102 and my grandma died at 108, and I am confident my father will live 5 more years at the time. Instead of putting $300 a month into that policy, I openned a saving's account and have him put $200/,month and I put the same $200.00 into the account. Now our account has over $25K....and he hasn't died yet.

I know how insurance works...it's a BET on LIFE...

If you want to ripped off the unintelligent Hmong, Mien, Laos, Vietnamese people, do so....but dont tell me...

I am in California.

""So all that you care is about premium right?""

Where did I say that? I think maybe you misunderstood what I was trying to saying. I was saying that because these tend to be Whole Life policies issued on older people the rates are higher. We get paid on the amount of the premium. But yes premiums are important. I write a lot of Asians because I work hard to find the the best rates. And also know the challenges of issuing a large enough policy on people that are on SSI. Or maybe did not have a long US medical history. This was more of an issue when they first came from camps. They buy from me and refer me. I would be glad to give you some examples of policies i have written on some elders.

By the way, One family here in Fresno referred me to about 20 different people. The oldest son is a Farmers Insurance agent. He set up a table at his home and interrupted for me.

""My father according to his age in the "legal paperwork" is 85, that's why he cannot get any insurance.""

Someone has misinformed you. He can get insurance at age 85. Maybe even back date to age 84.

""If you want to ripped off the unintelligent Hmong, Mien, Laos, Vietnamese people, do so....but dont tell me...""

Not sure if you were referring to me or not. If so, I resent it and you are very, very wrong. I do not sit with any of the elders without at least one or two of their adult children there. Same when I deliver the policy. There is a reason they refer me. It is because they trust me.
Also as far as "unintelligent" Asians go. I do not know where you live, but you are way off. In this city they are on the city council, Professors at the local collage, business owners. Names like Lor, Vang, Yang are always on the honor rolls at the local school.

Good luck

One difference about ethnic minorities is that most haven't heard about BTID "yet". They're being infiltrated though - had a call from an Asian client last month wishing to cancel his permanent policy. Turned out one in their circle joined PFG and replaced everyone's permanent policy with a term. "Did he ask you to join his co. by any chance?" "Yes, he did! How did you know???!!!" LOL he kept his policy.
