I thought about my case a little more. I think the wife took some POA docs and a witness to the prison and had him sign it. He remained as the bene, but she was able to handle the proceeds on his behalf.
I think he liked that, because it let his wife be the "bad guy" to the rest of the family. In this case, the funeral had already been paid for by the attorney that was suing the at fault driver who killed her. So he wanted the insurance proceeds to go to his own family.
His siblings felt differently about that. Thought they should all get a cut. One of them called and was somewhat threatening to me! Oh well! Nothing I could do about it, even if I wanted to (I didn't). I think as he signed the docs he was also pointing a special finger in their direction!
sounds like a great family, especially if the owner of the policy chose the son in prison as the most responsible one.........................
