Trump's talking point is the economy. It's one of two legs he has.. That and immigration (regardless of how you feel about Trump's immigration policy.)

Trump has to find a way to balance this response AND get people back to work. That's a level of leadership that Trump and his staff simply don't have political experience in regards to working on a national and state level with Governor's that don't answer to him.

Secondly, President's claim responsibility for the economy, but don't have as much stroke as people given them credit/blame for.

Personally, as the self proclaimed Second Loudest "Lefty" I'm genuinely interested in Trump succeeding, because that means the US didn't fail. However, frankly, he's been way over his head since day one.

Secondly Bill Mahr is a political "comedian" (who isn't funny.) His job is to engage his demographic. He's going to say stupid stuff to get ratings.

It's the same bit that jackhole commentators on the Right spew against the left.

It's definitely the reason I don't watch 24 hour news channels, or Bill Mahr.

Not a politician alive would let the economy go to hell in a hand basket unless the alternative was far worse. The reason is that unless there is something the public sees as worse, that politician will not get re-elected. If the economy were crashing because of excesses in the banking system like 2008, you could stick a fork in Trump right now. He'd be done.

But, since the alternative is millions of dead Americans, if he can minimize the loss of life and convince voters it would have been far worse had acted differently, he'll be a shoe-in.

In fact, that is why we are doing what we are doing. At first Trump thought "no way this virus thing causes a big problem, so I'm going to keep reassuring everyone that we are fine and the economy is strong and it is business as usual."

Once Tucker Carlson of all people flew down to Mar Lago and told Trump "hey, if you don't get ahead of this thing a lot of Americans are going to die and you'll be out of the White House," Trump changed his tune. He is now quite willing to risk short to intermediate term economic ruin in order to prevent mass deaths and therefore take credit for saving us from the virus and winning re-election.

Unless there is a far worse alternative, no politician would let this happen. Remember how Clinton beat Bush: "It's the economy stupid."

I'm genuinely interested in Trump succeeding, because that means the US didn't fail.

I've been rooting for him like I never thought I would or could. Not terribly pleased with either sides handling of the bail out bill. Trump here really needs to come out publicly and tell both sides to cut the $hit. Remember that moment in the debates when the Republican audience boo'd him and he Trump said "that's all of Jeb's donors and special interests" ... we need that kind of moment from him now.

The problem is this is another moment for Trump to be a nonpartisan voice and bring Congress together.

However, he isn't a statesman. His go to guy on this is Mike Pence.. which, he would need to step up his game.

Congress is dicking up.. Trump this is legit a great opportunity if he could capitalize on it.. but as above.

Ive been prepping for years. Not like bunkers and the stuff you see on TV, but guns, ammo, ways to clean water, non-perishable foods.

I ramped up a little bit on food about a month ago. I saw this one coming.

I just bought a whole house generator, reinforced the doors (nothing crazy just 3" screws), cleaned all the guns and distributed throughout the house.

Packing while I'm at home too. The sky's not fallen yet, but just preparing (prepping).

I also have stockpiled cash. Not in the mattress, but I can personally survive for a few years on $0 income.

I also got with the top telesales guys in the biz to create something for our agents. Rolling it out this week.

I have 6 different quality lead sources that will work especially well for telesales...for folks that have some cash and those on a shoe string budget.

Oh and I did buy about 150 rolls of TP about a month ago. And a 3 month food supply that will last 25 years.

@DayTimer is right. Adapt or die. Lots of folks are going to be hurting bad. Those that saved, prepared and are well-capitalized will be fine.

Shoot I bought $30,000 in airline and Royal Caribbean stock the other day. Once they get bailed out, I think I'm gonna double/triple my money.

Dude, if things get bad enough that you have to defend your property with artillery and keep your house running with that generator, you can pretty much wipe your butt with those American dollars. They will be worthless.
