Transferring Medicaid to Another State

Whats the process for transferring someone on Medicaid
from one state to another (Indiana to Ohio)?
Have a mother of a client who's ready to enter a nursing home but want to move her one state over to be closer to remaining family and Im wondering what the process is to do this.

Appreciate and advice or guidance on this!

AFAIK there is no such thing as transferring Medicaid. It is a federal program managed by states. Each state makes their own qualifying rules and benefit design. In Georgia Medicaid is handled at the county level by DFACS (Dept of Family & Children's Services).

Your state may be different.

No it doesn't transfer, the applicant would need to apply for Ohio Medicaid. If you have a specific nursing facility in mind, they would likely handle the paperwork, or the applicant and family members should go to the nearest County Office of Job and Family Services. Just Google it to find the closest office and if you go, try to be there even before they open so you don't have to wait all day long to see a caseworker.

Found out no person can be on two state's Medicaid systems at the same time, they must disenroll in their resident state before applying for the new state. Coverage granted would be applied retroactively and approximately takes 15-90 days for approval I read.
Thanks for the responses
