United Healthcare Will Be on the IL Exhange

UHC told us last month that they were going to offer off-exchange plans, so they could have more flexibility in plan design. But, if the on-exchange rumor is true, it would be good news! Why? The largest insurer in America wouldn't enter Illinois unless they saw how BCBS-IL captured 92% of the 2014 market-share and are willing to at least match BCBS-IL's prices. (Hopefully!) As Aetna and Humana found out, name recognition doesn't mean squat if your premiums are higher. Now that health premiums across the board are 30% to 50% higher than pre-ACA, price is priority #1 with most shoppers.

Thanks for finding and sharing this important information about UHC, Sam!

Attended the UHC 2015 Webinar for Illinois Today.

1. Only 1 county in the entire state will have ON-EXCHANGE health plans.. COOK county. (For those outside of Illinois the radius extends approximately 15 miles from downtown Chicago.)

2. The plans will be HMO. NO out-of-network coverage.

In short, nothing to see here folks... move along.

Allen by any chance did they mention what commissions will be on and off the exchange in IL. I heard on a different post for a different state but I'm not sure if those are IL commisions.

On is 6%yr1, 4% yr2, 2% yrs 3+

The e-mail UHC sent out said to login to the agent office to see both on and off exchange commissions. If their premiums are competitive, I'll investigate the commission structure in more detail. However, thanks for the On-Exchange commission structure, PBBaseball.

The On-Exchange HMO network is the only one that UHC will have on-exchange here in Illinois...and the only county with UHC plans on-exchange will be COOK county. Lots of people in Cook, but lots of mobsters too. Sign one of them up and he finds out that there is ZERO out-of-network coverage, and you'll be feeding the Coho in Lake Michigan.
:err:

I thought commissions had to be the same on and off. I agree with Allen though I've never really sold much of their plans because they haven't been competitive.

United Healthcare is able to offer two commission structures because they are using one subsidiary company for ON-Exchange (United Health One) and another subsidiary (United Health Life Ins. Company) for OFF-Exchange sales.
