Ok so I started cold calling, and a number of veterans say they have a policy/package, they've all used different terms, but whatever they say they have, they say it covers their whole burial costs. Is this true?

Did you review their policies?

People can't remember what they've bought two months later, so unless you saw the actual coverage they might be covered or they might not. The only thing you know for sure is that they have something they THINK covers it.

You could try and set an appointment to go out and review it, but your time would probably be better spent calling the next person.

Yeah this is just from cold calling. I'm just trying to figure out if they really have something from the government to pay for this. They have all said it covers their burial in a veterans cemetery.

So, if Im reading that right, the government pays $700 for burial and another $700 if not buried in a veterans cemetery. That's not gonna cover everything...

Do you have any veterans that are considered "War-Time Veterans?"

I don't know, I thought the only two categories were died during service or after.

In your area (central Indiana) there is a heavily marketed service called Veteran's Funeral Care. It's basically a preneed plan sold by Harry Moore Funeral Homes that they sell all over the state except (drum roll please) in the area surrounding Harry Moore Funeral Home.

They have an endorsement from the VA. They sell it at low prices and when they get a death call they just hire a funeral director or trade embalmer to pick up the body and hold a minimal service at a church or at the VFW.

The marketing materials look nice. The end result...not so nice.

You might call them up. They may let you sell the plan for them. They have tried to get me to sell it in my area. It's not for me.

I'm a USMC veteran, and i was put in charge to find out info for a burial of a friend and fellow marine. The VA will give a vet $300 (versus the $255 from Social Security). They will provide a flag and a burial plot if buried in a va approved cemetary. They do not pay for preparation of thr remains, the transportation of the remains (unless to a VA facility) and they do noy pay for the casket. My friend's family still had a funeral bill over $6,000. Most veterans that think the VA will foot the bill is misinformed. The hard part is convincing them they are!
