Search engines are smarter now, and meta tags will not put you any closer to the top, then wishing your site were there. Getting link backs is quite easy, and can be done by submitting articles on different sites about related topics. if you keep up on that, and do an article or two a day, your website rankings will increase tremendously. once the traffic is there, you better have good content, or they will hit the back button faster than you can believe.

Just google article directories, quite a few of them.

There is also article submission software to help with the submitting process.

You can buy software that submits to both article, and link directories.

I've use article sites in the past. I'm aware of several of them. However, I don't know which ones are good. The sites I've used in the past don't appear to be doing anything for me anymore.

I pick about 6-7 of the top article submission sites, and submit directly to them. I would suggest against using an article submission site, because most of the "sites" they submit to, are just their own sites that they set up, and get no traffic at all.

Newbie question: If I do put up a website, is it possible to make a good living by doing the following: Doing everything under the sun to drive traffic to my website like putting out door hangers, flyers & signs. Also, do some type of telemarketing myself or buying telemarketing leads. Will that be enough to make a good living?
