What Are a New Agents Biggest Challenges?

I agree with this. I spend my lunch reading this and then some time in between calls. If I don't watch myself I can lose a good bit of time here, and justify it considering it's insurance-related (usually) and there is some good information here.

Full Throttle nailed it...you have to commit to lead gen every day every week even if you have bad week or have a huge paycheck. Product knowledge is huge but getting in front of people on the phone or in person (as many as possible) will expedite your learning curve. You can learn on the go. Insurancetechhead...ALL good points.

You can justify a lot of different activities. Reading product information, reading on forums, mailing letters, arranging prospect cards, entering information into computers, etc. The problem with this is almost none of this puts us in front of a prospect. If you are not in front of a prospect it is very hard if not impossible to close a sale.

I agree. Its like cooking, eventually you can't wash your hands anymore or prep the kitchen. You have to start cracking some eggs for your omelette.

I once spent a week getting "ready" I swear the first door I knocked on resulted in a $700 dollar commission, since I had no aim that was the first and the last for while, but still

This is my first year in insurance sales and id say my biggest challenge is getting in front of enough people.

Ive done door to door sales prior, but not entirely sure how to do this properly in this field.

Where ive had the most success has been in referrals, especially those of a sale. I average 4 per home but I know the best pull 8 to 10.

I would recomed prospect, get ref, offer proper advise and dont watch the clock. your day isnt done until nobody will see you.

Otherwise im still trying to learn how to maximize my face time. Like I said, im in my 1st year I have a lot to learn.

If you average 4 referral per sale then you are doing better than 99 of agents. If some are telling you that they average 8 to 10 referrals per sale stay as far away from those liars as you can.

For your first year....You should be incredibly proud of yourself. I was lucky to average 1. That is impressive.

I know there is the one card system, but does anyone know of any other prospecting systems? I have been kicking around the idea of putting together an ultimate start up guide for new agents, so if there is anyone that has been in the biz, recruiters, agents, managers any input would be great.

I still remember when I first started. My manager was a retired prison guard (he sold to all the other guards his first 3 years in) who just kept telling me to sell to my family and friends. Well Im 28 and only my parents lived to the town I moved to and as a millennial my friends were broke as a joke. So he was useless. I pulled through, but there are a lot of agents who could benefit from an actual training program.

I know that the insurance industry sticks by its Gold standard of throw it against the wall but...Im thinking its sorta kinda time for a change.
