Why Crappy Leads from Affiliates Will Never Stop!

I've been buying shared leads from many of the lead vendors for a while such as Netquote, Insureme, Hometown Quotes, InsuranceLeads etc...recently pulled back to insureme do to the fact that I was having a better contact ratio not sales ratio mind you just that most netquote leads do not answer there phones email etc...and I believe most don't really exist...I just recieved my first lead that I could verify that came through an affiliate, This Gentlemen when I called said he had to do a survey and ads to get paid and hung up on me...though he did correspond with me via email and explained he worked for one of those get paid by taking survey companies and to recieve his commission he had to do a certain number of offers, obviously one that he chose was to request a life insurance quote we all know these things are terrible but after talking to my rep who told me they did not engage in these practices and it was a rotten affiliate I sat back and realized why this will never end.

Lets assume the lead was sold to 8 agents, If I am the only agent to get the gentlemen to answer his phone, maybe he hangs up on the other seven for the first 2 weeks then I am the only person to recieve a credit and when we say credit I only get my money back not much punishment imagine all the people robbing banks if the only punishment when caught was they had to return the money to the people that caught them...How many other leads have I been unable to verify are bad and as such did not get a credit? If they credit me do you think they turn around and resell the lead to another agent at that point?

The only way I can see this changing is fighting for a penalty instead of catching the lead company selling bogus leads and getting the money back they need to pay a fine of say 30%-50% and be required to contact the other agents and refund there money and pay the fine to them as well...I can see down the road the consumers will get so fed up with this we agents will be made to be the scapegoats on this even though we have no control on lead quality...

I know this is a fantasy but I think we all need to hound our reps about this catch me doing something bad and I'll give you your money back on that 1 lead.

The problem is that leads companies know they can screw you and there will always be new suckers willing to try them out. Agents are willing to share the same lead with up to 8 agents.

ALso think about this. If I wanted to buy insurance today from the web. I would go to something like google and do a search and find a ton of websites. Some will say instant quote and when I fill out all of my info, it then pops up telling me that my instant quote is not instant and someone will be calling me. That company then sells me as a lead to up to 8 agents. Next I go to the next link and try again. Even if I get a quote and like it, I will still do some price shopping. I will at least go to 3 to 5 other sites. I could be sold as a lead to up to 40 agents and it may not even be the lead company fault.
By the time the first 5 agents call me, I'm really mad and dare another agent to call me.

Why do we always let them blame affiliates? The lead companies are just as bad, though they blame the affiliate so you don't think it is them.

Why anyone would buy a "shared" lead or an "affiliate" lead is beyond me, when they can get "exclusive" leads.Tom

I don't believe any internet lead is exclusive....I'm also not prospecting for a tele health product or final expense....

I've been buying shared leads ...

This lead company sounds like it is run by ACORN. They fraudulently sign up voters for a certain amount per name. Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, etc.
