There's no such thing as a free lunch, or free operating system for that matter. They are copying facebook in a few ways; to monetize on the back end. There are some serious privacy concerns with 10, but at least many can be turned off. Read up on disabling these prior to installation since some need to be turned off during installation, I think. There's even a keylogger; reddit has a post on how to disable it.
In 12mos we will have to pay for the upgrade from 7/8 to 10. I'll be upgrading to 10 when most IT people do, at the inevitable service pack #1.
