$100 Per App for PCIP - Whooppie!

"PCIP's target is to begin compensating licensed agents and brokers by October 1, 2011, and they will pay a flat fee of $100 per enrolled applicant."

Per applicant - so husband + wife = $200. This is very significant, especially to a few agents friends I have left who are writing health. 2 apps a week is $200 extra for leads and they'll take it.

I used to receive $100 per app for enrolling people in MHIP. Although it took a while to receive the check, a $100 is a $100 is a $100.

At the height I was writing about 5 cases per month. While that may not seem like a big deal, this was something I was discussing with people anyway. Getting an extra $500 a month was nice. Could it have been more? Yes. Could it have been zero? Also yes.

But my effort, in most cases, was a fraction of my effort for selling underwritten apps. Basically I walked them through the 4 MHIP plans and I was done. They filled out the app and zero ongoing service.

Don't have to since the plan is self funded.
Got it. I was attempting to be funny when I asked but still, good to get clarification on these things.

Question: you say "at the height". Are you not writing any more cases or has it slowed down in MD? Just curious. Writing PCIP obviously isn't the path to riches, and isn't intended to be that, but still, might as well get paid for something previously given for free. Having said that though, we sent the PCIP link to several people, but they said it was too expensive, especially compared to the indy plan we tried to get them on in the first place. Here in GA they are lowering the rates by 15% or so, not sure if they already have, and haven't done the comparison. Don't want to invest the time until we get a case that qualifies.

The new rates take effect July 1, 2011. So anyone applying as of today will get the new rates.

I'm no longer writing health insurance.

Oh. I don't know much about the MD market, they are getting less agent friendly (like Mass?) I am from N.Va though, and wandered over to Maryland in my younger days (DON'T speed in Maryland! Gotta watch those cops on 495!).

Hey though, is your name healthagent left over from "better days"?

To quote the biggest cliche, you have to do what you love in life. I liked selling health insurance - never loved it.

After over 14 years in sales I was tired of talking people into stuff. I got to the point where I was only selling health to people who valued my services. I'm an info geek and love research and providing information.

So the question is, how do you make a living doing what you love? I love cycling and drawing and running, wish I could make a living doing it. That being said, we are looking into opening a gym, and getting out of this altogether eventually. The money won't be great, but we are relying on our book to keep us going through the first couple of years. It better work since 2014 is looming!

It's not that simple. What you love needs to be do-able as a business. I also like to run and I'm sure there's a business in there somewhere - but difficult.

I started putting my new site together almost a year before health care reform. I wanted to build a site that provided agent resources and it's a work in progress...and will always be. Most of my advertisers come to me so the sales aspect of it is enjoyable.

I think too many people are looking for "easy money" and even a few have commented to me privately that my new site is "easy money" for me. But if they want, they can wake up at 6am every day and start updating 50 states of news. After that is when the day actually begins.
