Going up against an association health insurance pool and its the first time I have run into this. Thoughts and ideas how to sell against it would be appreciated. Thanks

It depends . . .
Some association plans are quite good. Limited or no underwriting, competitive rates, yada, yada . . .
Others are close to going under and it is easy to cherry pick.

when you say going up against, can you be more specific. are you trying to sell to an employer and are competing against the association plan, or are you selling to the association and trying to replace that program?

Selling to an employer who is also looking at me and an association plan.
This particular association pool was newly formed in june from what I understand.

If so, it will probably be in the tank in 3 yrs or less. Good chance there is limited or even full underwriting.
Limited = group underwriting rules with no rejection.
Full = essentially you are competing with an individual policy endorsed by the association.
Important for you to do your research.

If the association just started in June you might have an easy sell. I have my doubt that it's a legit plan. I have never been able to get a top carrier to even consider quoting an association.
Association plans have very poor customer service.
Sell yourself as why the client should go with you.
