Anyone Work for Ameri-life?

Wow! This is an extremely long opinionated thread. I have an interview with Amerilife tomorrow morning at 10am. Not sure I should go now. I just received my life ins license and I am brand new to the business. I sure don't want to start off with a company that's scamming clients and agents.

The main thing is just get an iron clad release agreement up front signed by the company president. That is your safety net with any FMO. If they won't agree to that going in...move on.

There you go, simple as that! From the fingers of a newby.

Unfortunately, I didn't have chance to check the forums before I ventured out for my interview with Amerilife today, so I didn't get that salesboard picture. The guy that was supposed to interview me was not there, scheduling error by the sales support staff. In the parking lot I saw what I thought was another agent so I was going to ask him to spill the tea. Turned out he was an agent but he also did the training. He was on his way to a meeting but he took me upstairs and we talked. He said he had been in the business 15 years and with Amerilife for 5. He confirmed there are mandatory morning meetings at 8:30 even though this is a 1099 position. He said that leads are free for the first six months and that all leads are charged against an agents bond to prevent them (the agent) from going into debt. I didn't really understand the part about the bond but he said he was already late and I'm supposed to come back tomorrow to meet the district leader (the guy I thought I was meeting this morning).

I asked him about turn over rate and he didn't give me a straight answer. Citing that low attrition would be due to an agent's unwillingness to work. On the way out I spoke to the receptionist and she has been with the company since Decemeber. She says she sees a lot of people fall by the wayside, but most of them are the ones that do not attend the morning meeting. She explained that the morning meeting was the way agents received their leads. The only thing she didn't like was that at the meeting everyone has to call out their sales numbers from the day before. But other than that she didn't have anything else to add.

So, I'm going back tomorrow. And I will definitely ask about the release clause. They also have a mandatory 3 day training in Charlotte, NC. That's about three hours from where I am. The hotel is paid for but nothing else. I don't know if it sits well with me that I have to go to training and show up at a particular time everyday as if I'm a W-2 employee while taking on all the financial burden as a 1099. Seems like a good way for Amerilife to have their cake and eat it too.

OK this is long a plenty. I'll update again tomorrow.

Warroirqueen- just a couple things....first about the morning meetings: I've been in this business for 11 years, 2 as a GA and 9 with a few career shops. The morning meeting seems like a motivation, organizational prep tool for your day. How is that bad? When would you start your day as a GA? 8? 9? 10? 11? I find that the earlier I'm up and going the better I am and more successful I become.
As a 1099 that just means you're an independent contractor, not a GA, therefore you don't have a real "financial burden" on you. What about "free leads for 6 months" is a burden? How much are they after 6 months? As a GA you can spend thousands a month on lead generation if you can't self generate tons of referrals and new networked sales. Just a few thoughts.

Good luck in your career choice: ?

You don't think independent contractors face a in your words real "financial burden"? So the leads are free but they are charged against an agents bond? So are they free or not?

The heck! I said they are free for 6 months. That's no financial burden at all.

What happens after 6 months? 150$? That's a hell of a financial burden for anyone to have leads. Damn, say something at least that makes sense.

I have in the past. A great place to start as far as training for the senior market.
I do not talk bad about anyone. I was not a fan of the $150 per month leads, so I left. Very strong no compete clause.
