Anyone Writing Assurity Simplified Whole Life?

I haven't written Final Expense with Assurity, usually only 20-30yr terms with them. I put most of my FE with Lincoln Heritage.

Assurity is a great company though. You have to call their underwriters for the different tables to write under because they don't have a published underwriting guideline. But I have gotten a client with COPD approved. It was a couple of years ago so I can't remember how we classified it

Where abouts are you in California?

Lee

Hi Jeff, I received your pm but do not have enough posts to pm you back. Please pm me and include your email and I will email you my email address. Thank you.

According to Assurity's SIWL application:
Section A Question 2:

" had chronic respiratory disease such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or emphysema; had been treated with oxygen;

Based on the placement of the semicolon, the question reads "" had chronic respiratory disease such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or emphysema AND had been treated with oxygen;"

Would indicate that a person has to have both COPD and used oxygen..

That is how I read it as well, although I am sure Assurity could make it easier on the agent if they really wanted to. Ambiguity is an agents worst nightmare.

Yeah and they wouldn't be the first company that had improper use of punctuation or misspelling on a form.

Just out of curiousity, I went and looked at one of their apps. From the Tennessee app it reads:

...had chronic respiratory disease such as chronic obstructive respiratory disease (COPD) or emphysema; been treated with oxygen;....

The semi-colon means they are separate thoughts. Can you reference which state it says "...and oxygen..."?

Assurity will not give immediate coverage to COPD, oxygen or not, if that question is answered correctly.

If in doubt call underwriting at Assurity and ask them if they will. I already know the answer.

I didn't think they would just going by the application. My question was to all these people that claim they will.

Just for the record, and I can't believe I overlooked the "In the past 12 months" Assurity underwriting tells me COPD or Emphysema is ok if diagnosed outside the 12 month past and the prospect does not smoke and/or is not on Oxygen.
