The way the SOPA law is written up, if you have a copyright complaint, your site can be pulled without warning, and then you have to respond to it and appeal to get the site reinstated.

It could prevent say, using clips of tv shows on youtube, or showing an image on your site.. because of how broad it is.

The way it would work, your competitor sees your website, doesn't want it above theirs, they look thru it, see you used some text from another site or an image, you don't show you own rights to.

They report you to the copyright holder.

They then report you for violation of SOPA.

Now you get to prove you own the copyright, while your site is taken off the internet.

SOPA has not passed yet btw, and I recommend everyone take the time to contact their congressmen and senators and request that they put protections in there for small businesses who's sites are not dedicated to piracy.

All they have to do to get rid of the very draconian provisions of SOPA is make 1 line say that they can only immediately remove a website if the site's primary purpose is distribution of pirated material.

As it stands now, they could remove an insurance website for using a carrier logo.
