Biz Coach Or A waste Of Money????

Is DFACS aware of this?

Not sure what a hot pad is, but a cigarette lighter? Was everything in black & white and did the guys all wear fedora's?

Sounds like something out of a Bogie movie.

The husbands were always at work during the day. Most of the house wifes didn't work back then. A hot pad is what you use to take hot stuff off of the stove without buring yourself. I had cases of Hot Pads and lighters that I got really cheap.

I don't think this idea would work today, but back then, it worked very well. I used a couple of other free cheap gifts, but it got my foot in the door. Sometimes they would give me 5 mins to talk with them without giving them a gift.

I do see tons of other kinds of salemans giving out free gifts, going door to door these days that work. I allowed the pamper chef and salad master salesman in my house for a cheap free gift and before you ask, yes my wife bought from both of them.

The most simple things is what I found that works in making sales.

I made at least 2 to 3 sales a day, from doing this. I think it just seeing the people and getting in front of them. Most of the house wifes were easy to talk into getting insurance. They wanted me to help them talk their husbands into it. It was like a tag team match or something.

Most house wifes thinks about the husband not coming home every week. I'm not just talking about if they die either. LOL

Before anyone considers a coach I think you really need to look at their back ground. How much education in psychology do they have? Have they had success in a mainstream business career? Will they give you 3 references to check them out?

The question I would ask myself is why do I need a coach?

My experience with business/life coaches is that they are not who they say they are.

Those who can, DO. Those that can't, teach/coach?

I've been working for insurance companies for many, many years (not on the sales side) but when I decided to open my own agency to sell health, I hired our own John P. as a coach and mentor. He had a program back then to teach via phone and internet how to prospect, interview, sell, and close clients for health coverage. It was some the best money I spent (and it was only a few hundred dollars as I remember.) My bet is that you would get as much coaching as you would need from his IHIAA organization. I wish that was around when I started. If you are going to do health and you don't know "nuttin" I think that's the first check you should write.

I also took full advantage of all the free seminars the carrier reps would give each month (and get free CE creds as well.)

For group I learned it from the ground up through the local Benefit Mall rep who spent almost a whole day (and endless cups of coffee at Starbucks) on how group (in CA) works, how to sell, close, and service it (with the help of BM, obviously.) Of course, I put my groups through him. (He recently left BM and became the Anthem rep.)

When I moved into the life area I hooked up with two GAs who were (and still are) willing to spend the time to answer my questions in return for putting the biz through them. Anna at Brokers Alliance and Phil at Pinney Insurance are my go-to "guys" for life and disability respectfully.

Finally, there are people on this board like Dave Fluker who are always willing to spend a few minutes on the phone with anyone who has a question. I keep Dave on "speed dial." :)

I think if you are to get a biz coach... get one from this industry and not just a general "sales and marketing" expert.

That's my advice... and it is worth what it cost you.

Paul, you're a smart guy but this this tired quote has no foundation or validity to it.

Are you implying that Gitomer, Sandler, Girard, Tracy, Ziglar etc, etc, etc, can't DO? So instead they teach? Not likely.

There are obviously those that can do both.

Those who can, DO. Those that can't, teach/coach?

It wasn't made as a statement.

It was posed as a question...that's why there's a question mark at the end.

Life insurance with an adultery rider. What a neat idea.

I've heard that quote a few times in my life and I always wonder if the quoter is teaching me the quote or just doing the quote.
